The topic for our assignment is Entertainment industry based and our chosen company is Astro Malaysia Holding Berhad (ASTRO). Astro Malaysia Holding Berhad is a Malaysian based, ASEAN content and a consumer company that is towards being a technology driven organization in the digital, TV, radio and e-commerce space. The founder of ASTRO is Tatparanandam Ananda Krishnan which was born in April 1938 and he is Malaysian business man and philanthropist.

ASTRO (All-Asian Sat TV and Radio Operator) is a Southeast Asia’s top cross-media worker by mean of Director- To- Home satellite TV service in Malaysia, Brunei, Singapore, Indonesia and other parts of South East Asia country, being the only dealer of Director- To- Home satellite TV service in Malaysia. Their value proposition includes 188 TV channels broadcast via our DTH Satellite TV, IPTV and OTT platforms, of which 60 are Astro-branded and 72 are in HD. Their customers have a variety of options when it comes to viewing preferences such as HD, PVR, OD, IPTV services via Astro B. yond as well as on Astro Go and Tribe. They also offer a non-subscription freemium service called NJOI, which offers 28 channels – of which two are in HD. HD: HD service gives you an elevated sensory experience in High Definition with 5times greater details, vibrant colours and multi-dimensional audio. PVR: It is also known as personal video recorder which you can record your movie and watch it at any time. OD (VOD): Catch up the latest free or premium drama and movie. IPTV: Enables us to stream all favourite Astro programs via broadband/internet at an instant as the services we receive with IPTV are transmitted via high-speed fibre optic cables and over 700 hours of On Demand entertainment and unlimited downloads. NJOI: Malaysian first free-to-view satellite TV service by Astro.

Launched by Government of Malaysia and Astro on 18 February 2012, with 28 TV channels and 19 radio stations. ASTRO owns 19 radio stations which includes the highest-rated stations across Malaysia. They launched a listening app called Raku and these radio stations reach over 15.6 million listeners weekly in Malaysia. They are one of the top Malay entertainment sites in Malaysia and the country’s No.1 YouTube channel through Astro. They are also focusing on a platform home shopping business, Go Shop, available on two dedicated TV channels as well as via e-commerce and mobile. Astro has won the Gold award in the Media and Entertainment category of the Putra Brand Awards for the past six years, including ‘Brand of the Year’ in 2012 and ‘Brand Icon’ in 2013.

Other awards include ‘Organisation of the Year’ at the 2015 National Award for Management Accounting, Gold and Silver Stevie Awards at the 9th Annual Stevie Awards for Sales and Customer Service, a Silver award for Diversity and Inclusiveness Reporting at the National Annual Corporate Report Awards 2015, and a Bronze Stevie Award at the 2015 International Business Awards for Corporate Social Responsibility Program of the Year (Asia, Australia and New Zealand category) for the Astro Kasih Sports Initiative.
