Attention and Perception: Gathering, Selecting and Processing Information Within The Field

Attention and perception are important aspects that provide a significant engagement on how an individual is able to relate with the surrounding environment. Attention is generally a selective response to stimuli while perception is the consideration or the understanding an individual has towards a certain aspects within a given context. Thus in order to effectively understand the aspect of attention and perception, it is important to consider certain key experiments which are vital in developing a better-engaged environment. Research within the field of attention and perception seeks to explore the different processes that underlie how we are able to gather, select and process information.

Different experiments that are developed are considered in seeking to understand the general role that attention and perception creates between individual and how they are able to influence an individual performance regarding a number of issues that are considered. Having undertaken all the experiments within the context of understanding attention and perception, I was completely surprised by how I performed in all of the experiments, which sought to create a significant understanding on how certain actions can be very significant in trying to understand how certain things are developed.

The main reason I was surprised on how I performed is that initially I was not paying closer attention to critical things that happen when an action takes place. This is a very surprising action especially in the selective attention test where concentration happens on what you want to hear while you do not hear any of other actions thus becoming temporarily deaf. I realized that I have not been paying as a much attention to different situation and this has had a significant influence on my perception on a number of issues. Sometimes it is very difficult to pay attention especially with respect to events that are about to take place. Thus, attention and perception are two aspects that are important in creating a significant understanding on certain issues.

My performance on the selected tasks has brought a significant understanding onto the major issues in attention and perception. Through the tasks, I have been able to understand that attention is an important aspect in creating a certain perception about issues being considered. Attention is very specific and that I am only able to pay attention when there is need to do so. Goal driven attention is the most common aspect, which helps in creating a significant influence and developing a perception about an issue that is being considered. I have also been able to learn and understand that sometimes attention is influenced by a stimulus. This means that a certain aspect which has an influence on the issues being addressed. The overall message that I was able to deduce from both attention and perception as related to the selected tasks is that they are easily influenced by external factors.

The experiments done have a significant impact in real life especially how we are able to understand certainissues, which are of significant importance. The manner in which we pay attention and perceive is key to how we make better decisions and engagements. The manner in which we make decisions is very important since it shows how best we understand the issues at hand. When considering the stroop experiment it is important in vitality and behavioral entrepreneurship. Selective attention experiment highlights how important decision making depend on issues that are being considered. Ambiguous figures and the multi-lyer test experiments have provided significant consideration on how better to consider the multistable perception (Rensink, 2015).
