You should not get worried when the term origami is mentioned since it is simply the Japanese art of folding paper to create different shapes (Smith, 2021). Origami is one of the arts that has been introduced in schools in western countries due to the educational benefits it has proved to provide to its students (Johnson, 2019). There are many forms of origami, but the one that is most common is flower origami, and it is mostly taught to beginners of this art. You can advance in origami instructions to the level that you want, depending on your passion, but you can be assured that you will develop some love for it.
Most of the poor-performing students are affected by the feelings they have about themselves, where they do not believe in their abilities. Beginner origami is not complicated, as the student will learn the basic things and then advance with time (Lee, 2020). The student gets to know that there is something they can do on their own perfectly well when they master some skills in origami. This process can significantly boost a child's self-confidence in their capabilities, potentially leading to improved academic performance.
Origami breaks the classroom monotony where the kids might be required to remain in class and master some boring stuff. It is an excellent way for the learner to take a break from the classroom, providing them with an opportunity to digest the things taught in class (Brown, 2018). Most pupils enjoy performing this art, and thus they develop a positive learning experience in the process. Additionally, origami stimulates creativity and imagination, allowing students to express themselves in ways that traditional subjects may not permit.
You cannot master the art of origami by yourself, which means that learners have to work in groups to assist each other in making different flowers. This collaborative effort helps students appreciate the importance of teamwork, a skill that can benefit their academic and social life in the future (Garcia, 2022).
Most people in the world do not tolerate each other since they do not embrace the diverse cultures of others. Origami offers a unique opportunity for students to feel that there is something worth knowing from the culture of other people. In this way, they increase tolerance for others' ways of living, which can contribute to peace in the world (Wilson, 2023). By learning origami, students gain insight into Japanese culture, fostering a greater appreciation for global diversity.
In conclusion, origami offers numerous educational benefits to learners, including building confidence, breaking classroom monotony, promoting teamwork, and fostering cultural tolerance. These benefits make it a valuable addition to the curriculum, providing students with skills and perspectives that will serve them well in both their academic and personal lives.
