In my opinion I feel both the commercial industries should be responsible and alter what they put in product to keep us Healthy and we as consumers of the product should be more alert to the items we are purchasing. As a child my grandmother used to always say “what good for geese, may not be good from the gander”. Just because a food product is place on the shelf and label healthy, does not mean it is actually healthy for the individual.
Food industrial should keep in mind when putting a product out, there loyal follower are indeed relying on them to sell them a good source of food and trust what the food company is saying about their product. Most food companies are aware, consumers holds on to every word that either in the commercial or advertisement for that product. For example Mentos the first thing that come to mind is their slogan “the breathe maker”. When I purchase Mentos I expect it to make my breath fresh and the reason I purchase it was because the commercial told me it would help my breathe. Due to this fact is more of a reason why food companies should be responsible for alteration of their product to ensure America is healthy. In my article I read about how public health officials started to take a stand against tobacco companies and their products making them disclosure the whole truth of what their products could do to consumers. However they also made consumer more alert of their options and reality of smoking. Just like the attack on tobacco and the urgency to stress how both the commercial industries needed to be honest and consumer need to be aware. the maker of Mentos should have disclosed that this wonderful breathe freshener contain a lot of sugar in them , which makes them almost addicting instantly just like a pringles once you pop one the fun does not stop because you must have another.
Contrarily, consumers should be more alert and responsible for food choices. It’s our bodies and we are in charge of what we put in them. Food companies cannot change that. Commercial industries have to alter claims to alter their product to keep us healthy without us as consumers doing the proper research. As consumers we should be aware the commercial industries play both sides keeping the community healthy and continue to add high corn fructose to our foods.
