The story Bridge to Terabithia is written by Katherine Paterson. The story Bridge to Terabithia goes like this: Once there lived a guy named Jess. Jess was the only boy in a family. He was with his 4 sisters and parents. Jess`s relationship with his father wasn’t very good, because Jess loved to draw and his father didn’t like his drawings. One day when Jess went to milk the cow, Miss Bessie he saw a person sitting on the nearby fence. That person told Jess immediately: "Hi, my name is Leslie. What is your name? Lets be friends!" Jess stood for a while and answered: "Hi, my name is Jess. I don’t know about you anything how can we be friends?" Jess didn’t know anything abut Leslie, but Leslie told him about her. She said that she is 10 years old and her parents are writes. Leslie also told him about her that she doesn’t have any siblings. Leslie told Jess that she is an outsider and Jess told her that he is an outsider too.

When the school year started Leslie came to school and everyone was laughing at her. After the 3rd lesson they went outside. All of the boys went to run in the upper field. When they wanted to start running, Leslie came and said that she would like to run too. Everyone except Jess didn’t want Leslie to run. Jess asked Fulcher ( the boss of the class) if he isn´t scared to let a girl run. Fulcher knew that now he couldn`t say "yes" because everyone will laugh at him. So he let Leslie run. Fulcher said that she will run with 4th group. Leslie stepped on the starting line right next to Jess. Fulcher said: "Ready! Steady! GO!" Jess was so comfortable that he thought that no one can beat him when suddenly Leslie overtook him. Leslie won the race! Jess was very mad at her. On the next lesson Mrs. Meyers shares Leslies` hobby about scuba diving and gives the class homework to watch a movie about scuba diving on TV. Leslie said that she doesn’t have a TV. The whole class was laughing at her, but Mrs. Meyers said that she doesn’t have to do the homework. On the way home Jess and Leslie saw Janice Avery, a 7th grade bully, stealing Twinkies from May Bell - Jess`s sister. When they saw her they made a plan how to avenge Janice by writing her a fake love letter from her secret crush. Jess and Leslie wrote the letter in Terabithia. Terabithia was a secret land that they had made just for them. It was a virtual land. It was also the place where they could be alone and no one will see them there.

Around Christmas time and Jess didn't have any present to give Leslie. Once Jess was traveling to the school bus he saw dog for free. Jess decided to give the dog to Leslie. On the next day Jess took the dog and gave it to Leslie. When Jess gave the dog to Leslie that day when they went to Terabithia. Leslie loved the dog and gave him the name Prince Terrien. The next day Leslie gave Jess an expensive water colors set. Jess was so happy that he got it that he forgot about the cheap racing car set that he received from his dad on Christmas. After the Christmas holiday Ben, Leslies dad, wants Jess to help them paint the living room in gold. Jess helps them and Leslies family gives Jess cup cakes. Jess is very happy that he helped someone who he likes. Jess went to school after the Christmas holidays and saw Janice crying. Jess told Leslie to go to the toilette and speak to Janice. The time passed very fast and soon it was Easter. During Easter Jess and his family wanted to go to church, but Leslie wanted to go, too. When they went to church they talked about what will happen if Leslie dies.

After the Easter holiday it started to rain. After the first three days of raining the river had risen by which Jess and Leslie were traveling to Terabithia. Now it was much harder for them to go to Terabithia. This still didn’t stop Jess and Leslie from going to Terabithia. One Saturday morning Miss Edmunds invited Jess go to Washington D.C. When Jess picked up the phone he was so surprised that he could hardly talk. When he caught his breath back he said to Miss Edmunds that he has to ask his mother if he can go. Jess went to ask his mother if she will let him go, but she was partly asleep. Jesses mother said "yes" so he went to Washington with Miss Edmunds. In Washington Miss Edmunds took Jess to the National Gallery of Art. After the lunch Miss Edmunds gave Jess a lift home.

When he finally came home he saw that there is no TV on and that everybody was waiting for him. His father said that his friend Leslie is dead. Jess couldn’t believe his ears so he ran to the Burkes house. When he came near he could see police all around. Later on he continued to Terabithia. When he got there he started screaming "Leslie!" While he was screaming he went on running. Jess was running so fast and screaming so loud that he didn’t realize that the time is passing. Finally he heard a sound that was coming from the beginning of it. When he came to the fallen tree and there he saw May Bell hanging down from the tree. He ran to her and helped her to get up.When he helped her to get up they went home together.

Just after Jess came home he went to sleep, but he couldn’t, so he took out his drawing book in which he had drawn Leslie. Jess had put the book right next to his head and tried to sleep once more. Now he managed to sleep quite easily. The next morning Jess, his mother and his father went to the funeral. At the funeral Leslies father told Jess that he was the only friend that Leslie ever had. After the funeral Leslie family went back to their old living place in Pennsylvania. The Burkes left all of the building material that Jess needed for building a bridge to Terabithia. Jess made the bridge by himself. He elected a new queen. The queen was May Bell at last. When Jess made May Bell the queen he realized that Leslie was the mental bridge for him to be a king when he had to work hard at home. Later Jess went to Terabithia and showed May Bell all of the secrets of it. This is the end of the story Bridge to Terabithia. I would recommend this book for teenagers and adults. For me this book was quite interesting and met all of expectations about how the book should look like.
