All of us want to have a stable and blissful life; some people tend to achieve this kind of contentment by getting into a relationship or getting married, however, some people also felt this kind of sentiment by staying single. An award winning actress named Dana Delany who has a well-adjusted life and turning happily 60 said that her secret in order to have a cheerful and beautiful aura is that, she never been married, she doesn’t have kids, she does yoga every day, and she drinks a lot of wine. While on the other hand, Barack and Michelle Obama have a euphoric married life for more than 25 years, one of the best lines Barack told Michelle on his video message on their 25th anniversary that went viral is that, if other people get to know Michelle the way Barack do, they will fell in love with her and Barack’s best decision that he made is that he’s persistent enough to ask Michelle on a date and finally she gave in, and lastly, Barack don’t mind parachuting how much he loves Michelle and how much he appreciate her.

According to United States Census Bureau (2016), 45% of all U.S residents in 2015 which ages range from 18 and older are single and unmarried; while married women, including those who has an absent spouses or have been separated were 67.1 million in all U.S residents in 2015. According to a book of Bella DePaulo Ph.D. entitled Singled Out (2006), there are three definitions of single; legally single, socially single, personally single. Legally single means that the person is not legally married. Socially single means that the person is not in a romantic relationship that other people regard as serious. While personally single means that the person sees her/himself as a single. Every one of us search for a potential partner that will suit our preferences and standards, but at the end of the day, only few people found their Mr. Right and others just left hanging. Being single has advantages and disadvantages. Some advantages were being able to do what they like without the need to ask permission to anyone, they are more independent in life, and they are the master of their time; while the disadvantages is that they have no one to grow old with and they sometimes feel that they lack something that is unknown.

On the contrary, according to Coetzee (2017), Marriage is generally understood as the union between two people in an interpersonal relationship that is acknowledge by an official institution, such as the church and state, and a sexual nature. It is also recognized by a social structure or community to which the couple belongs, such as their family, friends, colleagues, and acquaintances. Married life is the toughest role in the society because they are not only a wife/husband, but also a parent to their children. On the previous days, some people tend to get married earlier in order for them to get out of poverty and some are being force to get into fix marriages even though they did not want it. On the modern era, marriage is the sacred and hard decision to make among the individuals because divorce/annulment is very rampant in the whole world and they tend to think that they will also end up that way because most people did. There were also advantages and disadvantages in being married, some advantages were having someone to support and encourage them in every decision that they will make in life, and their sex life is a way happier compare to the single people; while the disadvantages is that some married couple tend to lose themselves in the relationship so they tend to have mistress/boy toy in order for them to feel that spark again and some also tend to be abusive to their partner because they no longer love their partner and only stay in the marriage because of their children.

In conclusion, I am in favor that being single is a way well-adjusted and happier in life compared to being married because being single does not mean they are lonely, but it only means that they can stand on their own and live their life to the fullest the way they want it to and I think, that’s the most adorable thing about being single because their happiness and contentment is not dependent on others and they can be happy in their own different ways. In addition, being single does not necessarily mean closing doors to anyone who wants to be in their lives but it only means that they are wiser in choosing the partner that they want to be in their lives. And I will end this argument by leaving a saying from Ms. Jodi Sta. Maria, “loving yourself isn’t selfish at all, it’s really about knowing your value and your worth as a woman and we should never apologize for having high standards in love, because the right man or the man who really wants to be in your life will rise up to meet those standards.”
