The concert I will make a report on is called Tchaikovsky Spectacular with Fireworks. The venue was in Hollywood Bowl, 2301 N Highland Ave. Los Angeles, CA, 90068. It took place on Friday the ninth of August this year, at eight o’clock, in the evening. Everyone was required to settle before the main event of the day and locate their sitting positions. The event was orchestral, scheduled on the Hollywood Bowl that is part of the weekend spectaculars, Friday two series. Alcohol and any smoking are not allowed in the venue, weapons, or glass are not permitted. Taking photographs was an active part of the event. However, the use of drones, camera-stands, or umbrellas that may hinder the vision of other people in the hall.

The program had the following samples:

  • TCHAIKOVSKY: Polonaise and Waltz from Eugene Onegin
  • TCHAIKOVSKY: Swan Lake, Act IV
  • TCHAIKOVSKY: Capriccio Italien, Op. 45
  • TCHAIKOVSKY: 1812, Overture, Op. 49.

The artists that performed in the orchestra were Los Angeles Philharmonic, Bramwell Tovey, who was the conductor, and USC Trojan Marching Band. They are loved much by people, especially the spectacular sight of the fireworks from the 1812 Overture. The concert was attended by nearly seventy musicians from the woodwind, brass, and percussion family that combines the double bass too. A variety of wind instruments consisting of the piccolo, flutes, oboes, bassoons, soprano clarinets, bass clarinets, alto saxophones, baritones and tenor saxophone were neatly arranged on the stage, with spaces for the musicians to move through. Drums, cymbals, woodblocks and harps were placed in the other corner of the stage. It brought out a beautiful connection to the mind of a person seated on the other side of the hall.

Lights were illuminating the room in an array of different colors, that rotates and follow a synchronized pattern which was controlled by a man at the switchboard. The pit was a lowered stage in front of the hall, while the conductor stood facing the audience. A video monitor showing the gestures of the conductor was raised above the pit, and all the performers followed it keenly to incorporate all the keynotes the conductor wanted them to do.

A rare site was an individual musician that was seated alone in the far-right corner of the stage with several instruments. He used the hands, legs, and a stick stuck in the mouth to play all of them simultaneously, bringing a unique sound to the listeners’ ears. The playing was a combination of multiple styles brought together. The live staging made it better as tempos changed, from slow to fast rhythms. The switching from one key to the other was precisely done, raising and falling of the tones and drumming combination from the stage was great and satisfying. All the pit members wore a black three-piece suit and white shirts. It was a strict dress-code that every member was required to follow. Only a few guys had specific costumes on, showing their unique contribution in the performance. The seats they were sitting on were all black, but the instruments varied in color, from black to brown or white.

Observing the dress code and color matching is part of music culture, that shows organization, and discipline that is key in all genres of music. The composers of classical music balance ideas, instruments, and combines them with the voice-like and sing-able characteristics, developing newer genres and styles in music performances. The primary technique is homophony, whereby a prominent melody and subordinate chordal combination are distinctive. Focus in placed on music coming from the instrument combination. Not just singing of vocals but using the instruments’ sound to bring up a particular music genre. The classical style of sonata is different and distinct as it involves public concerts and live performance a part of its evolution, helping its growth and popularity amongst many people. What was intriguing from the stage was a lady member of the group who stood in the front and conducted only a single part of the instruments. She had a trumpet and played it for twenty minutes without interruptions from the other tools. It was unique and beautiful, from the dressing code to the way she combined different keys while playing. She was given a hearty clapping and standing ovation from the audience. We did not expect a woman to play the trumpet so beautiful the way she did that night. The entire set-up of the background and the performance was exemplary.

The concert involved musicians who were eloquently engaging the audience, and interpreting the Tchaikovsky music, dramatic ardor, and classic polish. Excerpts from the Nutcracker and Swan Lake, the theatrical rendition of the deathless 1812 Overture made everyone happy and excited with the performance. Every crucial detail of the orchestral performance, the rhythm, and brilliant display of the fireworks was a spectacular scene. It will remain in the minds of the people who attended it for a long time. Everything was absolutely organized and wonderful and I really enjoyed the event and I’ll definitely attend the other classical concerts taking place in Hollywood bowl from now on to see all those masterpieces begin played with professional instrument players.

In conclusion to this report essay I can say that attending these events helps you know more about music industry and history as well and it’s a knowledge that can help you in your life from different perspectives such as talking about music with your children and teach them how to enjoy it and knowing how to reduce your daily stress with listening to a masterpiece. Indeed, music is part of our lives, and seeing it being performed live is a delight to everyone.
