Consequences of Child Abuse and Neglect

Child abuse is a very cruel thing that people should stop doing. Some people who have mental issues commit child abuse. Although, others may not have mental issues and just be evil, so they also commit child abuse. One mental issue that can cause people to do this is Munchausen syndrome by proxy.

A woman named Dee Dee Blanchard was one of the people who had Munchausen syndrome by proxy. She had a daughter, Gypsy Rose, who unfortunately had to go through the cruelty of her mother. Dee Dee said that Gypsy had a lot of different types of diseases and said that she was also unable to walk which is why many things were offered to them for free, such as a free trip to Disneyworld. Due to this, Gypsy had to go various times to the hospital, go through many surgeries, take many medications, have a food tube, and a breathing machine, even though Gypsy was perfectly healthy and didn’t need any of this.

I believe that what Dee Dee did to Gypsy, her own daughter, was very cruel and wrong. This was a form of child abuse that was very cruel and wrong, and something her daughter shouldn’t have gone through.

There was also another story similar to this, in which a woman, Kaylene Bowen, did not have Munchausen syndrome by proxy, but her actions were similar to those who have it and she did still commit child abuse. Her son, Christopher, was her victim of child abuse. Her son had to go through 323 hospitals and pediatric visits and 13 major surgeries. He had to go through this because his mother had said that he was fighting many dangerous diseases while in reality he was perfectly fine and didn’t have any health issues. His mother had also had made a website in which she said he had been detected with Arteriovenous malformation at age 2 and since that was a fundraising website she got more than $8,000. This is something that was very wrong because she took advantage of innocent people who thought they were trying to help out a sick boy.

This is why people should truly figure out if the child is actually sick or not before making any generous actions. Overall, these situations impact the society majorly. People would now have to take more precaution on who they give their donations to. They would have to see if the person is actually sick or if it’s just someone who is trying to take advantage and steal their money. These things impact the society in a negative way because now people would have less trust in each other. People wouldn’t know if the other person is actually telling the truth or making up lies. This is why instead of building up trust in a society it will start falling apart and this needs to be changed so trust can start to build up again so people could once again trust each other.
