Did you ever heard of Disneyland? Disneyland is a place where people grew up dreaming and hoping to be part of. The hype and the beliefs around the place passed on from generations to generations made it impossible to forget it. Walt Disney is the man behind the reputation that Disneyland holds to date. Although little is known about Disney as a person, he is a true inspiration who continues to influence nations over time.
Walt Disney is a renowned film and cartoon producer who founded Disneyland Park. According to Michael Barrier’s The Animated Man: A Life of Walt Disney,” Disney is possibly the second most influential artist after Leonardo Da Vinci. His love for drawings and pictures was undoubted even from an early age as he drew random pictures and distributed them among his friend, family members, and neighbors. He is commonly seen as the father of motion picture medium in modern art (Barrier 23). His love for photography and drawings saw him enroll for classes at the Academy of Fine Arts (Barrier 21). Having come from a humble family setting, he worked his way to the limelight through hard work, sacrifice and continued creativity of his mind. Although he had earlier attempted to enroll to the military at the age of sixteen, this move proved to be the difference between what he was and what he could not have been. He eventually decided to pursue his career in arts, photography, and drawings.
The personality of Disney is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, he is seen as the founding father of motion art. According to Marty Gitlin’s Walt Disney: Entertainment Visionary, this continues to transform the world as Disneyland has grown to a global level. Besides, it was his ideas that brought about the evolution of the cartoons and animation industry that is now viewed as multibillion in most economies. Besides, his story is a true inspirational piece from rugs to riches that many can associate with within the industry and even in other societal sectors.
Disney lived in a time when the media sector was going through rapid changes. His ideas were thus critical in the advancement of the sector. For instance, he formed a company Mickey Mouse that oversaw the use of the first fully synchronized sound carton (Gitlin 45). Secondly, he introduced Technicolor to animations that were produced in the times of Silly Symphonies (Gitlin 44). He worked towards creation of new studios, growth of talents by employing thousands of people, and this helped his companies to grow over time.
Disney’s desire for education through entertainment as well as the inquisitive mind allowed him to work with a vision. Consequently, he was presented with awards for years to appreciate his works. For example ‘True Life Adventures,’ one of the series he oversaw, won several awards due to its use of interesting insights on wildlife that helped promote the idea of conservation of all outdoor heritage (Gitlin 64). Furthermore, Disney worked in 1965 towards the improvement of lives of urban dwellers. He hoped that communities could be built from the cities at that time to act as prototype for future possible generation, the modern society.
His legacy is built around his imagination, self made success, and optimism that made him achieve so much in a time when society was still in the dark on some media issues. As can be seen from the findings by Whitney Stewart and Nancy Harrison, Who Was Walt Disney?, Disney achieved great results by noticing details, capturing them with his sharp eye, and using them in his characters. Furthermore, there is no greater legacy than having played a role in the happiness and joy of millions of people even after his demise (Stewart and Harrison 65). Notwithstanding, Disney successfully oversaw the invention of a new and unique means of communication through art, through cartons and animations. Learning about Walt Disney should be encouraging as it helps people to draw inspiration from his achievements. Furthermore, his story is that of a rise from rugs to riches that many can relate to. Besides, Disney’s story will allow people to embrace their history and childhood dreams. His growth in a sector that was already flooded by better funded and equipped companies is encouraging to startups.
Walt Disney is an achiever who continues to inspire people to date. His contribution in cartoon-drawing and animation continues to advance society, especially in the communication sector. Disney had a dream and talent that helped him build a multibillion empire and enormous legacy. His story helps define the power of imagination, optimism, and self belief. It is through such biographies that we can learn to better ourselves at all times.
