Cricket, the famous sport that brings out the patriotism is making sure that it’s killing any sport that falls on its path. The cricket enthusiasts treat the sport as another religion and also as a festival. The humongous attention given to the sport by the media fraternity across all platforms have halted the growth of other sports in the country. It is obviously known that the sport has been a bridge among the people. The importance given to this sports makes sure that other sports don’t see the light of day. Product endorsement, the advertisers queuing up at the stars to sign deals for advertisements which are in no way related to the sport that they play makes sure that they as well as the sport remains in the mind of the people.
The not so famous proverb of “small plants don’t grow under a big tree” seems to be tailor-made for these kinds of “keep under the thumb” situations. The famous writer George Bernard Shaw wrote,” Cricket, is a game played 11 fools and watched by 11,000 fools”. There is always a regional difference in the selection of the players is a visible element that is been present in the board. We practically live in a country where the person is called by his state when he gets caught up in any issue but is called as an Indian when he achieves anything in international level. Amidst these kind of biased regulations, there are some players who made sure that they had a place for themselves which they achieved with utmost hard work. There are other sports personalities like PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal; in the field of badminton who have urged many younger kids of this generation to take up the sport; or be it Mariyappan Thangavelu, who showed that disability can never be a hindrance to achieve your goal.
These sports stars have surely created a ripple in the minds and hearts of many by showcasing their talents and giving a shout-out stating that there are also sports apart from cricket where people achieve their feat but aren’t under the limelight due to a cloud covering upon them called “Cricket”. Is cricket killing all other sports? No, cricket, as a sport isn’t causing any kind of hindrance to anyone. The Board, the government, the people and the media are the people who are lifting the sport and not even considering any other sport.
