The proposal will address some of the effects of criminal activities that have increased in America. Further analysis reveals that there exist some behaviors that have been observed in the recent past where the country has seen an increase in adult-committed crimes, including juvenile crime. The proposal will be addressing the effects of many crimes that have reached high rates within the past several years in America. In analyzing the behavior, it is evident that the U.S. has a significant amount of time dealing with adult and juvenile crime. The state has experienced high numbers of youth under the age of 18 committing robbery crimes. My proposal will focus on developing various programs that focus on preventing crimes from occurring and establishing prevention programs for adults and juveniles. The country has experienced numerous thefts committed by youth under the age of 18. The proposal aims to create programs intended to promote crime prevention.
The problem analysis triangle provides reliable and efficient ways of understanding all the aspects related to theories of prevention and crime. The theory states that crimes occur when the criminal is together with the target. In linking the analysis, data from Virginia indicates an increase in violent crime (murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault) of 1.0 percent compared to 2013; this contrasts with a 1.6 percent decrease comparing the same violent offenses between 2013 and 2012. Property crimes such as burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft continued to decrease the previous year (5.8 percent); a 3.9 percent decrease occurred between 2013 and 2012. The FBI figures for the most recent reporting period are not yet available.
This analysis, depending on the data from the state of Mississippi, is associated with more than 150 crimes happening against the target of 1800, making the region rated 0.084. Accordingly, Washington DC stood at 32 crimes against a target of 640, with the region rated at 0.048. Besides, the California state was number 118 against a target of 250, making the region rated as 0.49 crime rate. Based on the analysis mentioned, there are several different strategies that can be used in various criminal acts if implemented through the right jurisdiction.
Rehabilitation focuses on changing the offenders and, therefore, prevents future crimes. Rehabilitation as a crime prevention strategy also encompasses the aspect of education provided by different psychologists and criminal experts in that institution. Those who have committed various crimes get a chance to understand why they made such decisions and are given the opportunity to make different choices that do not involve crime. A basic principle underpinning modern crime prevention is that it requires the practical application of research and evaluation findings in developing and implementing strategies to reduce crime. A good evaluation can determine whether a program has been implemented as planned, what outcomes have been delivered, whether the stated objectives have been achieved, and the reasons a program did or did not work.
Crime prevention strategies targeting groups can be very beneficial because they focus on more than just one individual and are not as complex as targeting a community as a whole. It is crucial to ensure program suitability and alignment, organizational resources, and the level of program adaptation. This type of crime prevention method that focuses on a specific group is secondary crime prevention because it targets individuals who show risk factors for crime due to their dysfunctional environment. When targeting a specific group like young adults or juveniles, Robinson (2013) suggests reducing the opportunities for young people to socialize and hang out in unsupervised settings. The crime prevention program proposed for the problem previously is to provide juveniles with after-school programs and community programs like the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (Robinson, 2013). When juvenile groups are not provided with ways to keep their minds occupied, they may start to act out because they do not always have anything else to do. However, peer pressure significantly influences how juveniles decide to act and the activities they choose to engage in. Community programs can offer positive and active ways to keep the youth's minds occupied.
In this study, we employ qualitative in-depth interviews with mentors in a school-based program to learn about their perceptions of the strain experienced by their mentees and how they respond during sessions. We focus on emotional regulation, conflict resolution, future orientation, and active listening—four positive coping strategies associated with enhanced resilience among at-risk youth. This study considers how these positive strategies fit into mentors’ descriptions of their approaches and the implications for intervention programming. Several methods could be used in crime prevention depending on the nature of the crime and the available jurisdiction. Considering that the majority of criminal activities involve juveniles, the best strategy would be rehabilitation.
The aspect of rehabilitation is based on changing the offender for the better, preventing future crimes. As a crime prevention strategy, individuals who have committed several crimes can obtain a chance to understand the reasons behind their offenses and are offered the opportunity to make better decisions that do not involve crime. Crime prevention refers to the range of strategies implemented by individuals, communities, businesses, non-governmental organizations, and all levels of government to target the various social and environmental factors that increase the risk of crime, disorder, and victimization. There are different approaches to crime prevention, varying in terms of the focus of intervention and types of activities. The theory behind these activities is how they are designed to produce results and the mechanisms applied.
The programs will require funding, and the best strategy would be obtaining donors to help finance the programs, organizing fundraisers, or requesting government assistance. Programs and rehabilitation can be costly, and when developing a funding strategy, many questions need to be addressed. Below is a list of questions related to securing funds for the programs:
Different strategies yield varying results based on the programs, with certain outcomes developing over time on long-term and short-term bases. The government aims to ensure that juveniles and adults have the opportunity to get their lives back on track and make the right decisions to avoid committing crimes again. Some goals may have a rehabilitative focus associated with long-term behavior change; these may be easier to evaluate if refocused and broken down into short-term goals that support the long-term. Rehabilitation ensures that juveniles, in particular, have the chance to correct past actions and reach a point where they can make decisions different from the crimes they committed.
In today’s society, crime rates have increased over the years, with most crimes being committed by juveniles. Our society faces the challenge of determining where to assign culpability for juvenile crime. Parents, the community, and schools bear responsibility, although they contribute to factors leading to juvenile crimes. Families, schools, communities, and the juvenile justice system must all play a role in ensuring that youth accept responsibility and are held accountable for their actions. Crime prevention programs can help reduce crimes committed among adults and juveniles. These programs will provide a positive outlook, not only in preventing crimes but also in helping individuals get on the right track.
