David was born in Bethlehem, the youngest son to Jesse. David’s life grows from a shepherd and then he was chosen by God to become the King. He was Israel’s second and most powerful ruler. He becomes one of King Saul’s associates after his heroic act of slaying Goliath with one stone and a sling. God acted on his favor most of the time and turned everything he did into a success. He became famous in Israel which led to jealousy growing inside of King Saul, who attempted to kill him, but failed. David was anointed by Samuel and made the king of Judah.
David unified all Israelites and centralized Jerusalem as a place of worship. He brought the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem and built the first temple there. David, like Samson, was chosen by God. Being the youngest in Jesse’s family, he received God’s favors and was brought to higher ranks of the King to rule. This made him a profound hero.
David led Israel and delivered it from the hands of Philistines. This is seen when he wins twice in the battles that the sides were involved in. David also elaborates to the King on how he killed a lion and a bear that came after his father’s flocks. This portrays the heroistic deeds done by David in his life quest.
David wrote the Book of Psalms in the Bible. This made him a great savior and King of Israel. Also, his ancestry is known to produce Kings, therefore classifying him a legendary hero. His son Solomon, who is known for his wise decision, came from this courageous man and his wife. Writing the Holy book inspired by God categorizes David as a great legend.
David committed adultery with Bathsheba. This was a sinful act which was against God’s will. David places Uriah, Bathsheba’s husband, at the front-line during the war to be killed. This brought misfortunes to his family ever since and was a wicked act that called for punishment. David was busy with battles and leading the country of Israel, but lacked parenting qualities that led to his son, Amnon, to rape his half-sister Tamar.
David can be regarded as the true savior of Israel. David is repenting to God after committing adultery with Bathsheba. He always places God first in all of his actions. He prays to God when he confronts Goliath and sets the first place of worship in Jerusalem as he unites all Israelites. Although, Samson, who acted on self-interest as well, can technically be regarded as a savior too since he delivered his people from the wrong hands. But unlike David, Samson was not regretful and continued to repeat the same sinful mistakes throughout his lifetime, which he never learned from.
