Compassion entails showing mercy to a person or people who are going through challenging times. Everybody has the character of compassion in them. When we show compassion to others, we feel more relaxed and accomplished. Everyone should learn to show compassion to others regardless of their age or race. Compassion can be defined as giving time for family and friends, using the phrase “Thank You” in your daily life, and building relationships by listening to others.
Compassion is giving time for family and friends. When we show compassion to those that we love, they respond to us by showing more love. There was a time one of my friends was sick. I went to the hospital and asked what she needed. She said that she wanted quality time with me and some fruits. I brought her the fruits and spent the whole day with her. Even though I had other issues to attend to, I showed compassion to her and made her feel loved. This experience highlighted the profound impact that small acts of kindness can have on someone's well-being.
Compassion is using the phrase “Thank You” in your daily life. Any time someone does something nice for me, I always answer ‘thank you’ with a smile on my face. This simple gesture motivates the person to continue showing compassion to me and others. I have learned to say ‘thank you’ to the lecturer for assisting me in my education, to the salonist for doing my hair, the dentist for checking my teeth, and the receptionist for attending to my needs. These acts of compassion make others feel appreciated and valued in their roles.
Compassion is building relationships by listening to others. Listening to others is an act of compassion. When I listen to others, they feel the sense of being loved and appreciated. When doing assignments with my friends, I prefer looking them in the eyes as they explain something. This gives them confidence and encourages them to go on with the explanation. Listening to others also builds confidence in the one who is being listened to. I also listen to my siblings when they are saying something. I do this by leaving whatever I am doing and creating time for them, especially during dinner. This act of listening not only strengthens bonds but also fosters a deeper understanding between individuals.
In conclusion, people need to be compassionate since everybody goes through problems in their daily lives. As we have seen, we show compassion through giving time to family and friends, using the phrase “Thank You” in our daily lives, and building relationships by listening to others. When we show compassion, we assure other people that we love and care for them, creating a supportive and empathetic environment for everyone involved.
