Occasionally, all people get lost in their lives. However, some people take longer to find the proper resolution and make many mistakes while attempting that action. Others, on the other hand, find themselves much quicker without serious consequences. This idea is clearly demonstrated in the film The Graduate. This film emerged during the Hollywood New Wave period and put all American standards to a serious test. Moreover, various features demonstrated the new wave, which seemed foreign to many individuals. Thus, The Graduate was a one-of-a-kind creation that potentially caused change in the USA. Thereafter, many films started to implement various untraditional ideas depicted in the above movie. The Graduate combines the use of amazing editing, a very odd and new set of characteristics, and various realistic features.
Editing is the most important feature in a film, producing interest and attraction to the picture. The Graduate contains a very beautiful and professional editing technique that enhances the viewer’s understanding. For instance, when the music was combined with the character’s emotional status, it demonstrated the inner feelings of the actor. Music plays a symbolic role in the picture that reflects many actions of different characters (Smith, 2020). Furthermore, the viewer receives a much more complete overlook while observing such musical scenes, leading to a connection between art and emotion. For example, a sad scene is accompanied by sad music, producing a total emotional tornado within the audience’s inner self. The editing features of the movie are necessary to address, but the characteristics of the film are also very interesting.
The audience of the given movie expected another traditional, everyday film but instead received a movie that reflected counter-American virtues. For example, when Ben began to have an intimate affair with a much older woman who wanted change. Such a relationship was very uncommon during that time period and raised a lot of confusion (Johnson, 2019). Moreover, the displayed traits depicted the American desire for change and social reform, creating a new wave in the American cinema industry. Such interesting and unusual characteristics reinforce the attention of the audience and guarantee a deep emotional dilemma, leading to a full understanding of the film's particular message. The characteristics of the movie are an essential piece of the puzzle, but the realism of the film is equally shocking.
More often than not, viewers seek relatable aspects in films, and The Graduate brings realism to the screen without any kind of deception. For instance, Ben's struggle with his future and his uncertainty about what to pursue is a common issue in current society. More and more people are doubting the path of their lives and darting around meaninglessly (Doe, 2018). The film clearly demonstrates the reflection of real everyday struggles. Moreover, when the audience spots a relatable scene, their interest is triggered, prompting them to engage more deeply with the picture. The emotional component of the unhidden realism glues everyone to their seats and leaves a long-lasting memory.
Overall, the film turned out to be a hit due to many critical reasons. The beautiful and technical picture combined with unique traits and behaviors creates a truly powerful result. Furthermore, the realism of the film also enhances the entire sequence. Many individuals can relate to such art and, at the same time, admire it. The struggles and issues depicted in the film clearly demonstrate an untimely release, which makes the audience both suspicious and interested. Finally, the memories may stay with the viewer for a while because the power and strength of the film cannot be forgotten soon.
