The purpose of this essay is to talk about Army leader attributes. An Army Leader is someone who has been selected for many reasons. They show special skills that not all Soldiers have like character, intellect, and presence. Leaders are selected because they show competence, and the ability to accomplish the mission. We will dissect those skills and see why these are so important.

Fundamental Leader Attributes for Army

A leader of character means applying integrity to all things, it measures what a person thinks is right. A leader who strives to keep their integrity ensures that no one can question their position. Character makes up a leader. ‘Always do right. It will gratify some people and astonish the rest.’ A good source of character will always be shown highly through a unit. Lower enlisted will seek and out and find a leader of good character. Army values are what a leader lives by. They always display honor, duty, integrity, respect, loyalty, selfless service, and personal courage.

Empathy is a skill a leader must have. To care is brotherhood of empathy and understanding that I am going to do for you that I may not do for myself. Once you have a bond, you’re unbreakable. We are brothers and sisters, we take care of each other that’s what this is all about. To be a great leader you must be true to yourself. The warrior ethos is a way of life, a set of morals to conduct yourself by. They define who we are and who we inspire to be. Discipline is a behavior where you choose to do what you know you should do. Discipline is the backbone that leaders have. They set the example and live the example. It means balancing body, mind, and spirit.

Presence this skill leaves impression on Soldiers and motivates them to follow the leader. A leader pushes a presence of military bearing on their Soldiers such as fitness, problem solving and confidence. It’s not just a matter of showing up; manner, actions in which leaders carry themselves exemplify presence. Every leader has presence, as leader’s progress through the ranks the growing number of Soldiers he’s impacting is multiplying, making it more difficult to have his presence felt. As a leader where you spend your time will have impact of what your Soldiers think of you. If you are in your office no amount of work you do for your Soldiers will show. Their perception of you will be negative. Suffering with them is the only guaranteed way to build a bond of trust and communication. Leaders have confidence, confidence is not something that can learned like a set of rules. Confidence is a state of mind it comes from a feeling of well-being and acceptance of your mind. They know what they want, they are driven, and they don’t accept defeat. This ability gives you the strength to laugh at oneself and to keep moving forward. The skill of intellect is to think with one’s mind to the best ability. This involves tackling a problem, finding a solution and applying it. Intellect will allow a person to understand their strengths and weaknesses, making for different leadership styles. Being mentally tough allows the leader to be adaptive in any condition. Leader attributes describe how an individual behaves and learns within an environment. A Soldiers moral and ethical quality help a leader decide what is right and gives a leader motivation to do what is proper, regardless of the risks. By living the army values you are displaying the best possible character and leading by example standards. Leaders work by which standard they were brought up from what leaders see others do.

Innovation is the end result of critical and creative thinking. “Innovation is seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought” being innovative keeps us ahead of determined enemies it is this skill that keeps us the number one fighting force in the world. Military Expertise is the support, and the application of land power. All supporting assets essential to completing the mission to defend the American people.
