Ethics is a moral principle that guides one’s action. Being ethical can be recognised by making the right decision. Therefore, ethics matters every day. It is not only in work, relationships, organization, and also the people we spend with. Being ethical is important because it will make our jobs easy to be done comfortably. It is because all of the processes are done without any unethical actions or decisions. Therefore, it is much easier to deal with. For example, I will not involve in a job which will cause me guilty because I do not have to worry about how to hide the fact to others. Besides, ethical actions can also be a role model for others and create a positive effect in the future.
My ethics is respect which I can accept everyone even they are different with me such as race, religion, occupation or gender. It is the most important things for me because it will create a sense of peace, truth and happiness in my life. Besides, I can only get respect from others if I am a respective person. Therefore, I respected everyone no matter who they are. For example, I respect every waiter by smiling and thanking them for their service. Moreover, I respect to elders by giving my seat to them on public transportation. Hence, this action makes me feel good and peace in my life.
Loyalty is my other personal ethic. I will put my heart out there in every task or job and I would not quit it. For example, when I am doing my part-time job as a promoter, I promote the sale as possible as I can. I did not give up on the halfway and persist on it until the end of the day. It is because it might cause the supervisor to find another promoter if I quit the job urgently. Besides, I am willing to dedicate my time to help people around me. For example, as a club member, I gave help directly by looking after the club’s booth when they ask for help. Not only that, since family is one of my value, so I will also contribute my time with family to increase the relationship.
Moreover, belief in others also one of my ethics. I would not doubt anyone’s ability to doing some task. I believe they can do it well. For example, I am having confidence in my group member by asking them to finish a task even they are younger than me. I believe that they are all the talent and responsible person. Besides, I will listen to others and encourage them if they are no belief in themselves. For example, one of my friends was very interesting to a piano course, but she worried that it is too late for her to learn. Therefore, I encouraged her and believed in her that she can do well because of her persistence. Not only that, I strongly agree that belief from others is very important too. In my experience, I have a big dream and everyone might think that it is unrealistic to accomplish it. However, my mom encourages me to do whatever I want at least I would not regret. Then, the belief from mom makes me belief in myself and start to make my dream come true.
The other personal ethics is appreciation. Everyone has talent in them and they should know it. A small thank you can mean a lot to someone. It might become a motivation for someone which can also bring positive energy. However, if there is no appreciate in our lives, a lot of problems might occur such as emotional, argument and gossip. Therefore, we should make appreciate to become a habit in life by seeing good things in others. In my experience, I am a person who likes to see the negative side of a person and I rarely to appreciate to anyone. Hence, it makes my life and my mind full of negative things and unmotivated. Therefore, I try to change my mindset by seeing others’ positive side and give appreciation to what others have done. After that, I realised that it changes a lot in my life. The habit of appreciation helps me to develop a positive atmosphere in a relationship. For example, I appreciate my parents who are willing to sacrifice themselves for me to grow up well. Hence, my parents are very happy that I have this kind of thought.
In conclusion, I am more likely to go to the virtue approach because it is very useful to make a right and ethical decision when facing an ethical dilemma in the business world. It is because I will think of what kind of people I would like to become. The personal ethics that I mentioned above are the person that I want to be, so I develop the ethics within myself through practising. Hence, the virtue approach can help me to be a moral character. It is because practising will become my habit and be the person that I want to become. Therefore, I will be able to make the right choice when encountered with any ethical problems which can also guide my life well.
