Dwight D Eisenhower was a true American patriot. He was born on October 14 1980, in Denison Texas and was the third of seven in his family. His parents made a decent living and provided a suitable home for their large family. He and his family later moved to Kansas city which Eisenhower considered his hometown. His early years were like any American boys childhood, he built many memories with his siblings that he cherished.
After he graduated in 1909, he and his brother both went to collage. Only being able to pay tuition once at a time, Eisenhower switched with his brother. Luckily for him, Eisenhower landed an appointment at the United States Military Academy in West Point NY, were attendance was free of charge. After Graduating as second lieutenant he was stations in Texas, where he met an 18 year old Mamie Geneva Doud from Denver, Colorado The couple married nine months later on July 1, 1916. Eisenhower was promoted to first lieutenant on his wedding day.
For the first few years, he and his wife bounced from post to post and made a family together. By the time the United States entered WW1, Eisenhower was hoping to be posted overseas but was appointed to run a tank training camp in Pennsylvania. Throughout and after the war, Eisenhower rose through the ranks, by 1920 he was promoted to Major. He later applied to the Army’s prestigious graduate school and graduated first class of his 245 classmates in 1926, with a strong military prowess.
From 1927 to 1929 Eisenhower toured and reported for the War Department, After this tour ending in 1929, He was appointed to chief military aide. From 1935 to 1939 he served as a military advisor to the Philippines. Eisenhower returned home to the United States in the early year of 1940.Over the next two years, Eisenhower was stationed in stationed in California and Washington state. He quickly rose through the ranks as if he was still in school. Eisenhower became chief of staff for the Third Army. Then soon was promoted to brigadier general for his leadership of the Louisiana Maneuvers. Then later was transferred to the War Plans Division in Washington D.C. in 1942, there he was promoted to major general.
Not long after, he became commander-in-chief of the Allied Forces and led Operation Torch, which was the Allied invasion of North Africa. On D-Day, June 6, 1944, Eisenhower led the Allied forces in the invasion of Normandy. In December of that year he was promoted to a five star general. After the surrender of Nazi Germany in 1945, he was made military governor of the U.S. Occupied Zone. He then returned home and had a hero’s welcome. A few years later after being elected president of Columbia University and being appointed as Supreme Commander of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) He was heavily encouraged by Republicans to run for the president of the United States.
