Due to vast improvements throughout history, human rights has allowed people to freely speak their ideas and beliefs. Also, the transition from a modernized society to a more virtual society has allowed people to express their ideas more freely and have access to news from all over the world. Thus, people are entitled to their opinion, ideas, and beliefs. However, all expressed ideas have counter arguments for example in religion people might share different views based on their beliefs but they still have the security of their right to maintain their beliefs freely. Since society has took a dip in the virtual side of living, division due to power has strengthened through the use of social media. This has lead society into a dystopia, where control by a higher power is enabled. More over, associations such as the National Basketball Association have the power to enforce regulations on their players to maintain power and rule. For example, in recent years the NBA as enforced a strict dress code where players can no longer wear their desired choice of clothing but instead dress formal when entering and when leaving the stadium. Thus, from this action a dystopian environment is created, players no longer can express themselves freely and if they do they will be punished. Such regulations have caused higher authority over people inhibiting them from freely expressing ideas and beliefs which is completely wrong. People, especially players who are so highly valued, should be allowed the right to freely express themselves on interviews or even when dressing . This is because those who are allowed to freely express themselves are much more comfortable and happier.
To every idea, belief, and opinion there is a counter argument. This is due to the fact that people are set to be all different due to their ideas and natural customs, which further allows ideas and beliefs to be entitled as well in allowing ideas and beliefs to be exchanged. In some cases such as the dress code rule imposed on players, there is a lot to valued from such rules. Dress codes have been in effect for many years as a way of keeping order in such cases such as in school, sports, and military. Dress codes are set to improve concentration, safety, hygiene, and organization. For examples in schools, dress codes allow people to concentrate more on valued things such as the teacher. Safety is also valued form dress codes, as dress codes prevent bullying, people who wear their choice of clothing draw bullies who judge people base on their ways of living. In sports also, dress codes present players as formal, clean, and organized. The reason the NBA devalues the free dress code cause it distracts viewers and other players but it also draws skepticism from many. The more in line and organized players are, the more NBA is portrayed as a valued association. In the eyes of the association, the dress code helps improve charitable events and influence viewers positively. Like wise the NBA cares program enforces players to wear a shirt that portrays the message of NBA cares, this is to help fundraise money to charities in hope of helping the unfortunate. Thus, the dress code seems to prove a good part in sending out a positive message to people, especially viewers of the National Basketball Association.
In a recent article on USA Today, it states that David Stern the head of the National Basketball Association has enforced a strict dress code for players and they can either “comply or leave”. The dress code has stated to include players to wear “"dress" shirts (either collared or turtleneck), shoes, slacks or jeans.;Players out of uniform on the bench must add a sport coat as well”(McCarthy). The writer freely states the rules that have been placed and through the use of examples has clearly stated the reason for the action imposed. Although the article states the side of the association leaders, it draws many oppisition from people such as NBA fans and players themselves. This is because, higher authority has imposed many regulations or “rules” preventing people with expressing themselves freely which causes people to fear the power of the higher authority thus concluding in a dystopia. Thus, this is why social media has played a major effect in allowing people to oppose one another based on their own ideas and beliefs. Players are also factors in fighting against dystopian way because it inhibits them to freely be themselves while they are playing and working in a association they worked on their whole life to get into. In other words, its bizarre to see players who are the main value in sports such as basketball, however are still able to be confined due to the authoritative power of the basketball association. Overall, since people depend heavily on social media and television, associations use their power such as imposing dress codes to present their players on television so that viewers can be aware and interested in why the NBA is trying to sell such as tickets to stadiums, clothing, and certain messages. IN result, this has lead society to fall under a dystopia, where everything is controlled by higher authority restricting thus the rights us people were first entitled too.
