Would you rather save the world from deadly crippling diseases or take that possibility away from them? Most people find doing stem cell research on the embryo is unethical and destroys the potential life that is being created. The thing these people do not realize is that scientists being able to do this specific type of research benefits the population. The embryo being used in stem cells rather than the umbilical cord or adult cells helps treat patients more effectively. I believe that embryonic stem cell research can be seen as more ethical and be considered pro research.
Having stem cell research guidelines lets us treat the participants in a respectful manner and keep their personal information private. Stem cell research is the best way to advance in treating others from crippling diseases such as blindness, spinal damage, etc. According to U.S Senators, author of U.S. Senators Ask President Bush to Expand Federal Funding Policy for Stem-Cell Research, “These conditions affect more than 100 million Americans.” Proving that it is more than just one person that suffers from a crippling disease. We are the only ones on this planet that can provide the necessary biological material in order for stem cell treatment to work. In addition, women get free medical care for going through an operation. A report released by the International Society for Stem Cell Research states, “…. to pay for the cost of any medical care required as a direct and proximate result of a woman's provision of oocytes for research.” Meaning that women providing the biological material are treated justly and equitably.
Senators push President Bush to expand the federal funding policy on embryo stem cell research. This will allow scientists to make improvements on stem cells that are extracted in order to make better treatments. The article states, “Scientists also know that the policy is on a thin line but they believe that Bush should relax the restrictions, so it can be fully explored.” Claiming that it is ethical to do embryonic research in order to make stem cell treatment the most effective. This would be able to cure patients with slim to no side effects. This is a better route than prescribing patients medication with side effects and giving them a chance to get addicted. For example, my grandma personally has to go through bottles of pills just to keep herself sane and feels like she cannot live without them causing her to be addicted.
The only issue with this is President bush is against funding embryonic stem cell research. Bush views doing this procedure as unethical and unmoral. How can something that benefits the population be unethical? Bush rather use other parts of the human body that are less effective than the embryo which is most effective. According to President Bush, author of Address on Stem-Cell Research Funding, “stem cells can be derived from sources other than embryos: from adult cells, from umbilical cords that are discarded after babies are born” He rather use alternatives than what needs to be extracted. He also states, “extracting the stem cell destroys the embryo, and destroys its potential for life” (Bush). This shows that he disagrees with the use of embryos as the primary source. People should be given a fair opportunity to participate in research. The public participates provide the necessary human biological materials.
In conclusion, I believe that if we study embryonic stem cell research it will be the most effective and beneficial biological source. This will help the population that is suffering or prone to these crippling diseases. These diseases are sometimes deadly. As stated, people should be given the fair opportunity on participating in stem cell research. You should not bash or un-justify what is happening in the stem cell research field. Just because you see something in a different perspective does not mean it is wrong. Embryonic stem cell research does not only benefit you but everyone else around you. This should be considered pro-research and ethical by all means.
