The sun was at the peak of noon with temperatures rising over 25 degrees Celsius. It was Daniel's 3rd day at Brisbane Grammar School. He sat on the bench in front of the Ladies Toilets waiting for someone with sympathy to sit next to him. He had never had a friend before and always had desired for the contentment of a friendship since he started school. However, he had always been portrayed as too fat, too stupid or too lazy so as a result it was natural he was friendless. He looked at the building, which there were windows, bricks and doors, and wished he could just be as blithe as those objects. Instead of being so uncomfortable in his tight uniform, he hoped he could just lie down and go to a wake less sleep. He listened to the contiguous noises and heard only the constant cycling of the air conditioning fan, the lawn mower on the oval behind him and the occasional murmurs of fellow colleagues who completely neglected him whenever he attempted to start a conversation. Although he had already been accustomed to the verity in primary school that no one would try to allow him to be his or her friend, he had anticipation that since every single person in the year group was new to the school, they would be more than willing to make friends with him. However, on the last day of his first week, he was inexorably proved wrong.
During lunchtime, Daniel heard the annoying siren that meant only one thing. A fire. Remembering the instructions for a fire drill, which he had memorized, he started to walk down to the oval. Then he saw it. It was the biggest fire he had ever seen! And it was burning between BGS and BGGS. Not only that, but it was burning exactly over his sister's classroom. He could hear yelling and screaming as if there had been a terrorist attack. Some teachers were throwing blankets over the fire in an attempt to put it out. However, it seemed to be helping the fire instead of putting it out. Those ludicrous teachers! Didn't they see the hose near the building? Daniel started ran to the hose and turned it on to full. The teachers saw him and started retreating from the fire. After a while, many other volunteers begin helping and the fire was starting to die down. But still, there were endless cries from the victims inside. Seeing a clear way through the fire, Daniel swiftly rushed through and helped many of those trapped. There were, because of Daniel, no injuries of any sort, and therefore, Daniel became from a total loser to one of the most respected in the school.
The school congratulated Daniel on his heroic rescue and the headmaster gave everyone the afternoon off and they started to celebrate. Daniel made many new friends after the incident and went on many TV shows, radio talk shows and newspapers because of his valiant rescue. He also got a girlfriend! During the next week, he was easily became class captain and many other leadership roles. Often during lunchtime, he would join his new mates at sport and in just a few weeks he totally changed himself from the disliked, fat loser to the one of the most admired in his class. He even lost some weight. After 12 years, he finally felt the bliss of having a friend. At least it corroborates that all unpleasant beginnings lead to an excellent end.
