Becoming a nurse is something I’ve thought about for a great part of my high school career. And many told me to reflect on how do you see yourself contributing to the nursing profession. Helping people has always been one of my passions and I feel that going to nursing school and becoming a nurse was something I’m destined to be. Coming to the conclusion of deciding to become a nurse was a journey of its own. As an adolescent teen going through high school I wanted to pursue a major and career and that would combine my love of science and the human body with my passion for helping people and bring happiness into their lives any way I can. I explored the many options available that were geared toward my passion and discovered nursing. As I did my research on it and saw what nurses do I immediately knew it was what I wanted to pursue. To become more engaged with nurses and how the life of a nurse is, I became a volunteer at Texas Children's Hospital and instantly loved it being able to help children and bring smiles to their faces made me realize this is the career for me.
The strengths I possess are ones that I am very proud of. One of those strengths is my perseverance. My will to do something no matter what the challenge or obstacle is second to none. I'm willing to put everything I have in each task I do because it's just who I am. I know nursing school will require the best of me and I'm willing to give everything to succeed in nursing school because it's something I need to enter to fulfill my passion for becoming a nurse. Another important strength of mine is the communication and people skills I possess. Being able to connect and communicate with people is something that has proven to be very essential for me in life. By being able to do this I’m able to connect with people on a human level basis as I believe this is very important for nurses and nursing students. As a human, we are all not perfect so we are bound to have weaknesses. One of my weaknesses would be I spend too much time paying attention to details. Spending too much time going over details is something I’ve always been doing as its a habit from me being a perfectionist. This is something I am working on however as I control how I approach things now and the time management of it.
Becoming a nurse is something I could see myself doing. To me being a nurse is all about the patient. It’s a career where I’m able to bring joy and happiness to individuals and provide comfort for them.
