Exploiting of Global Warming as Reason to Inflict More Taxes

There has been much controversy over how much of an impact man’s carbon footprint has on the increase of “global warming”. Pejoratively, the Los Angeles Times is exacerbating the fault of man’s carbon footprint versus global warming being a natural occurring phenomenon. Just like the “air pollution” crisis of the 70’s and 80’s, the news media, such as the LA Times, talks about global warming with such alarming fervor, that one would think that the earth is going to burn up in the near future. Consider this, per Cora Barras, BBC Earth, March, 23, 2015 stated that, “probably, the nearest life has come to ultimate destruction was 250 million years ago, ” so, unless more than one world leader decides to commit mass destruction, or other natural disasters occur to wipe out life and the planet, it is possible that humankind and the earth could be around forever. That being said, many well known actors and politicians such as, Governor, Jerry Brown, use the global warming platform for their personal agendas, stating that they have carbon free lifestyles, but on the contrary, have a bigger carbon footprint then most average people. Although, I too believe it is necessary to take measures to protect the planet, I feel that some of our government officials are exploiting global warming’s cause and effects to use as emotional scare tactics on the population to increase taxes as well as for their own personal agendas.

Jerry Brown is known to use private jets which put out huge amounts of carbon gases in the atmosphere, and very costly, which is one of his on-going contradictions to stating we need to shrink our carbon foot print. Furthering his confliction, about finding solutions, and making an effort to lower fuel emissions, “Jerry Brown flew in a private jet to Italy in the summer of 2015 for the climate talks at the Vatican. Moreover, he reported his flight in 2015 on a corporate plane costing $56, 440. 00. The flight was one of three gifts of airfare Brown reported in an annual disclosure, per, David Siders”. Adding to his finger pointing at everyone but himself, in 2016, he signed a law for the dairy industry and garbage collectors to receive $90 million in funding to regulate cow farts and landfills. In a press conference, he stated that dairy cows were farting too much, and putting too much methane into the atmosphere. “The bill is to monitor the methane produced by the cow farts. The methane in the cow farts is called “short lived climate pollutants, ” and they are short lived in the atmosphere as well. Also, by 2030 there will be $50 million in state fees charged to the” so-called polluters, ” the dairy farmers, per CBS Sacramento copy right 2016 the Associated Press. ” Hopefully, in spite of the tax and regulations, there will be enough incentive to keep people wanting to be dairy farmers and garbage collectors.

To add to his personal agenda, our clean air crusader, Jerry Brown, misused “the greenhouse gas-emissions reduction program fund from the state legislature voting to extend California’s cap-and-trade program through 2030, for his high speed rail system (a train that goes to nowhere). He had already burned through more than 2. 5 billion, and the gas-emissions reduction program fund is still not enough to fund the high speed rail project, but he is still preaching for us to drive our cars less to burn less fuel. Jerry Brown also misinformed people by blaming global warming for the recent forest fires which had nothing to do with the fires. Per Investors Business Daily, August 3, 2018, in the article, “Sorry, Gov. Brown – Global Warming Not to Blame For Deadly California Fires, ” stated, “Cal Fire, the state fire agency, blamed “steep terrain, erratic winds, and previously unburned fuels” for fueling the fires. ” The article further states that “Jerry Brown called on dramatic, extremely costly steps to “shift the weather back to where it historically was”, claiming current weather conditions hadn’t been so hot since civilization emerged 10, 000 years ago” The editorial goes on to say, “Succinct, and very wrong, in fact, a look at global temperatures for the last 10, 000 years shows that temperatures have been much warmer than they are today for much if not most of the time during that period. Indeed, many historians and anthropologists attribute the rise of civilization to global warming following the last ice age”.

A cause of global warming is the “greenhouse effect. ” According to the article in Life Science, “What Is Global Warming? By Stephanie Pappas August 10, 2017”, the greenhouse effect is the increase in temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere, which is caused by the interaction between Earth’s atmosphere and incoming radiation from the sun. ” Fundamentally, Global warming has and always will occur naturally, per the article, “Facts about Global Warming You Should Know. by: Nathalie Fiset” Nathalie Fiset explains that, “for the past 240 years, fossil fuels in the form of oil have been mined, and burned, which caused an increase in carbon dioxide, methane, and water vapors content of the Earth’s atmosphere. ” Some experts are posting that there is a concern that by the year 2100, the temperature could increase to about 2. 5F to 10F, which would cause glaciers and polar ice caps to melt per NASA, in the article “Global Climate Change, Vital Signs of the Planet. ” However, many scientists are working on creating ways to slow down global warming.

Reducing heat-trapping emissions is key, and researchers are looking into other sources of fuel besides fossil fuel. Reducing tropical deforestation is another way to reduce global warming emissions. By doing our part as citizens, we can preserve the world and have a better, cleaner place to live. However, do not be fooled or misinformed by people stating untrue facts for scare tactics. For instance, we the people in California were not even consulted on a plan to build, and launch a satellite in to space to track, and gather data on global warming. Per the San Francisco Chronicles, Kurtis Alexander submitted on September 14, 2018, “Jerry Brown advised California is building a satellite to launch into space to track and gather data on Global Warming, ” but it will be funded by the citizens of California, and is unnecessary because, there are already many scientists, and climate change experts working on the solutions. Many solutions have already been put into the works to heal the atmosphere such as, “The problem: every refrigerator, supermarket case, and air conditioner contains chemical refrigerants that absorb and release heat, making it possible to chill food and keep buildings and vehicles cool. Refrigerants, specifically chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs), were once key culprits in depleting the stratospheric ozone layer, which is essential for absorbing the sun’s ultraviolet radiation. Thanks to the “1987 Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, ” CFCs and HCFCs have been phased out of use. It took two short years from the discovery of the gaping hole over the Antarctic for the global community to adopt a legally mandated course of action. Now, three decades later, the ozone layer is beginning to heal. ”

“In the late 1970s, Federal regulations were applied to many products containing Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) such as, aerosol cans like deodorant sprays, bug spray, through the “Clean Air Act and U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Regulations further restricted the use of CFCs for non-consumer products. All consumer and most other aerosol products made or sold in the U. S. now use propellants –such as hydrocarbons and compressed gases like nitrous oxide – that do not deplete the ozone layer. ” Per the Scientific American, “Bad Hair Day: Are Aerosols Still Bad for the Ozone Layer?” “Products made by other countries that still might utilize CFCs, cannot legally be sold in the U. S. The EPA is monitoring other chemicals called “volatile organic compounds”, which are key component of asthma-inducing smog. Of course educating the population is important to slowing down global warming, and enforcing regulations are necessary. However, to reiterate Cora Barras’ findings, “The last time life almost came to ultimate destruction was 250 million years ago”.

So, do not let the scare tactics that some officials of the government use fool you. Conditionally, it is probably to inflict more taxes on us similar to the tax on the dairy farmers, which now, have to monitor the methane in cow farts so the government can receive $50 million in revenue. With that beings said, just like the smog and ozone layer issues in the 70s and 80s, people will keep finding better solutions in our technology, and humankind most likely will endure forever.
