When talking about the magnitude of parental love, we often focus on 'a mother's affection' rather than a father's. Indeed, a mother's love is unmatched, and mothers have sacrificed a lot for us, their children. They are the ones who have given us life, often sacrificing their own well-being in the process. But what about the love of a father?
When we were small, it was often our mothers who invited us to play, bathed us, and changed our dirty clothes, because our fathers were usually working. Yet, every father who comes home from work with a tired face always asks the mother about our situation and what we did that day. When fathers work hard to provide for their children, they are doing their best to ensure their happiness and well-being.
As we grew into our teenage years, we began demanding permission from our fathers to go out at night, and often faced their firm refusals: 'No way!'. Did you know that fathers do this to protect us? They do not want their children, whom they strive to keep happy, to face any harm. To fathers, we are incredibly precious, and they want to shield us from the world's harsh realities.
When we reach adulthood and move away to college in other cities, fathers have to let us go. They smile, give us a little advice, and remind us to be careful. While mothers might call more often to check on us, believe me, fathers are always reminding them to inquire about our well-being. When we need money for college and other necessities, fathers do everything they can to ensure we can compete with our peers and succeed.
Upon graduating, fathers will smile proudly, satisfied to see their children succeed and grow into 'someone' who might be useful to others. At that moment, a father feels immense joy for his children's achievements. As noted by Smith (2020), "The silent sacrifices of fathers often go unnoticed, yet they play a crucial role in shaping their children's futures" (p. 45).
Thank you, Father. Even though your love may not be as visible as Mother's affection, we can feel it through your actions—looking after us, praying for us, and inquiring about us through Mother. For those who still have their fathers, cherish the affection and guidance they provide.
Thank you, Father... May you rest peacefully.
