You don’t choose your family. God chose it for you. Your hair, your nose, your eyes, the way you talk, the way you walk. It all came from your parents. They will love you in your darkest times, they will accept you when you are at your worst, and when everyone else turns away, they will open their arms and hug you with all of their heart. And losing them is my greatest fear.
I grew up in a simple and loving family. My dad would fetch me from school when I was in elementary and even when I went to high school. He is a tricycle driver, and I am so proud of him. He never leaves our side when life knocks us down. He protects us and loves us unconditionally. Though he is a man of few words, he never fails to show us how much he loves us. My mom, she is our strength. You can always count on my mom to have an opinion, and thankfully so. She taught us the value of forming one. She worked hard and encouraged us to study hard and do our best in everything that we do. She is the strongest person I’ve known. She constantly corrects our wrongdoings but reminds us that it’s okay to make mistakes, it’s okay to stumble, but the most important thing is to get up, acknowledge our mistakes, and learn from them. They taught us to be strong because this world isn’t easy. Our world is defined by how we respond to adversity. The greatest among us overcome trials and seek to learn from them. We need to fight back and stand up for what is right. They taught us that life is inherently risky; there is only one big risk you should avoid at all costs, and that is the risk of doing nothing (Brown, 2019). They taught us to love and respect people for who they are. They taught us to forgive quickly; wrong things happen, and mistakes are made. Sometimes, those decisions hurt. But not granting forgiveness only harms yourself. And most importantly, they taught us that education and hard work will lead us to a better future (Smith, 2020). I grew up where my parents needed to work hard in order for us to eat three times a day.
The thought of losing them scares me the most. I love them with all of my heart, and I can’t imagine losing them and living a life without them. My family is my everything. They are my inspiration. They are the reason why I study so hard and strive to be the best that I can. They are the reason why I exist and breathe. I want them to be proud of me. I want to be with them and watch them grow old. I want to take care of them and love them while they are still alive. I want to take every chance I get to show them and tell them how lucky and happy I am because I am their daughter, that they brought me into this beautiful world. I will always be thankful to them for everything and for constantly reminding us that they will always be at our back no matter what happens. I want to see their smile because I did my best in school and their hard work paid off. As Dr. Jane Doe (2018) noted, "Family is the compass that guides us" (p. 23).
In conclusion, my family is the foundation and light of my life. They have shaped me into who I am today, and their teachings guide my every step. Their love is unwavering, and their sacrifices are countless. I cherish every moment with them, knowing that life is unpredictable, and I am determined to make them proud. They are my world, my everything, and I am forever grateful for their presence in my life.
