It’s unbelievable how throughout the many years higher education has gotten more and more expensive for an average American to attend. The average student loan debt in 2018 was 69% with an average debt of $29,800 according to Student Loan Hero. Creating it harder for lower-income Americans to attend college to greater their education. Education for many hasn’t been an option, while for others, they have been fortunate to have a choice to attend a CSU or UC. Many haven’t been able to achieve their dream career because of problems financing, living conditions, maintaining a family and much more. Some have set aside their dreams to focus on the important matters life has thrown their way. Because higher education cost has gradually ascended in the United States, free education should be provided by the government.

By providing free education it would increase chances for all American from all backgrounds to expand their education. Giving them many more possibilities to improve themselves with a great career while enjoying their life. We live in a society where to succeed in life, college is a must for bettering ourselves financially and mentally. Being stress over affording college is a lot on a person that can eventually hurt them mentally. College fees are only increasing and it can lead to fewer people attending college. All Americans deserve a chance to attend college without having to worry about the fees and debt there will be at the end of their studying. People today are struggling to pay off a car now imagine trying to afford college at the same time. Instead of stressing over affording college, they should only think about exceeding in their education. Furthermore, the books, housing, transportation, and tuition prices are through the roof costing more students to become in debt at a young age. Over the past 20 years, the prices of tuition for both in state and out of state colleges have risen crucially.

While in the United States, tuition is super expensive, whereas in other countries that offer free tuition for example; Norway, Finland, Sweden and as well as many more. All these countries have a no-cost attending college. Citizens of these nations can receive free education regardless of their income level. Since colleges are free in these countries, it become more normalize for Americans to study abroad, according to The University of the People. These countries can have free education since they have higher taxes than the US providing additional social services. For instant Germany offers free education besides some administration fees that are under $300. It’s very common for American students to study in Germany because English is spoken and it’s a very affordable education rather than the United States. Having the option to study abroad in countries with free education relieves from having high students loans debts.

Students are signing student loans like its nothing but in reality, those loans will take many years to finish paying it back, not to mention the additional interest rates. According to ‘College Access and Affordability: USA vs. the World,” the cost of higher education has surged more than 500 percent since 1985. This is so mind-blowing realizing that education hasn’t stayed the same nor decrease but increased 500 percent. About two-thirds of American college students will leave their college with some sort of debt. There is $185 billion in sources and types of aid for undergraduate students. The most being 37% in federal loans about $67. 8 billion dollars while the least being tied in-between states grants and private/ employer grants around $9.8 billion. Student loans are at an all high growing rank, cause a barrier when it comes to buying a big purchase. The United States holds around $1.31 trillion in just college debt. Students are being tricked into these loans that will only lead to debt. After all the studying as well as stressing, there is a high percentage of students leaving college without a job. This leads to creating more weight on their shoulders on how will they pay for their student loans. For the most part, student loans are a major trap, that intentioned to hold them down for the years to come.

On the other hand, the government spends a lot of money in less important areas whereas in the most needed areas it is in higher education. Higher education is put aside, giving the least amount of attention that is hurting everyone in the education system. As stated in the article, “Trade Schools, College, and Universities,” increasing the tax rate on the wealthy people is one way to the government can fund free public college. Additionally, it’s affecting the new generations that can someday help run the country. Having the government provide more funds for higher education would increase the attendance of tons of Americans seeking to continue their studies. Would allow more students to be less in debt, not to mention earning the job that pays well that would help pay off those debts. Investing more in education is very beneficial for both the Government and the citizens simply because the citizens will be more educated then together as a whole the US will be an educated country. The government spends way more money on other areas, like defense, the total amount spent in 2018 was $639 billion whereas in education only $59 billion were given to education. The government should have additional services for higher education providing help to those who need it. It’s very interesting that when applying for the FAFSA, it requires a lot of information about our parents’ income when in reality most of the students will be paying not their parents. From my perspective, I do not want to have my parents dealing with my education fees, they already have their bills to pay and to worry about my sister’s and I education is a lot for them. Many middle-class Americans do not have the privilege of having our higher education paid for by our parents. Imagine if our K-12 education was not free, it would only lead to having most of the country with uneducated citizens. However, we do have the opportunity to have free education for K-12. Now the country should be able to offer free education for its citizens the same as other countries can provide for theirs.

Countries with free higher education have different terms, to be able to allow for free tuition. These countries use the money they collect from taxes to fund for their citizens’ college. The citizens of these countries benefit very well with it. Then granting themselves with things they want. The United States uses the taxes they have collected in other things such as funding the military, and businesses that don’t do much for the people. For instants, in Denmark, students pay not much to very little fees allowing everyone to have the same opportunity to achieve a degree no matter if they are wealthy or not wealthy. Everyone should have a fair chance of pursuing a university degree, not just the ones who have wealthy parents. There have so many exposed wealthy parents that bribe the university in order from their students to attend and received a degree from a prestigious school. Realizing that private university is not being fair to everyone, choosing students who often do not even want to further their education but just have the experience of attending college. Another country with free education and has the highest ranking in the quality of happiness and life in Sweden. The students only need to cover the fees for their books but depending on the college they may be able to access books through online websites such as JSTOR. Providing them with sources like JSTOR will reduce on items they need for school, saving them some money. Besides, if students study full-time the State will help them financially to cover for their expenses. Having the opportunity to have free education helps students to take the time to decide their career for a while as well as taking courses. No need to rush their study to start working to pay off their debt instead it lets them figure out their true passion in life.

Recently I have noticed some good change that had to happen in the state of California, offering the first 2 years to be free of charge. This is a major improvement for the community colleges that are near the area. It has allowed many students like myself not too worried about trying to come up with the money to pay. I realizing that many more adults may try to take some college courses to kick off their careers. Now students have more access to improving their lives little by little. Hoping that one day they can accomplish everything they hoped to do in life. For too many students who go to school and work, it can get overwhelming trying to balance everything. Having help from the government increases the growth of overall for the better. It significantly will become more affordable to everyone, especially to those who have less in general. The education system, as well as the government to needs to work together to come up with a plan that can correctly benefit everyone. That includes every student no matter their background, status, or income level. Working with each other will improve the levels of society for the better educated Americans leading to solving challenges. Students will be more intrigued in their education without worrying about graduating with many student loans at the end. The government needs to increase the help financially providing an equal chance for those pursuing top-performing careers. This will increase the chances of students’ chances of owning a home, business or creating a family. It also allows students to spread their ideas and talents to the world that could lead to a much stronger, joyful and prosper country.

Overall, the Government should provide their citizens with free higher education, also offering other resources along their journey in college. Nonetheless, community college offering the first two years free is quite on the right path. It will help the students very much, no more student loans nor working multiple jobs to pay for their tuition. More Americans will have the chance of continuing their education, which could improve in other areas like buying a new car, home or going on a vacation after finishing a semester. The government accepting to fund more in the education system would provide satisfactory results. There is no doubt that higher education should free to make this country better. That will provide a more stable and debt-free economy as a whole.
