The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a collection of minimum 24 satellites transmitting radio signals to users in order to provide positioning, navigation and timing. Global civil (GPS) services have been widely has been available from 1993, yet GPS signals are vulnerable to intentional and unintentional disruption. The major transportation, communications and energy all depends on GPS systems. GPS helps in the emergency situations, for example, ambulance services. The US government shows keen interest on developing GPS with high technological space satellites with new features through a multibillion dollar scheme. After the deployment of new satellites, the accuracy, uptime and accessibility of GPS will improve all around world technology has been moving quicker mood in the 21st century, and GPS is not an exception. With the development of new technology softwares and satellites new generation of GPS vehicle trackers in around 2020s will have an increased accuracy in tracking, up to centimeters or millimeters close to an asset. There are two major of locations technologies used in present world – the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) and the Global Positioning System (GPS). One of the most prominent factors is navigation methods which are used in smart phones. As of today GNSS receivers have been used in drones too in order to get accuracy in tracking. Seven billion GPS receivers are being used in all sorts of vehicles and devices in 2017 which is being expected to reach 10 billion by 2023. Earlier it was started in 1978 for military purpose but due to it need it has shown immense growth in the researches. As new and restored global and regional space based navigation systems emerge, interoperability continues to be the key to GNSS future. The main objective of the International Committee on Global Navigation Satellite Systems is to ensure compatibility and interoperability between the GNSS systems. The GPS constellation is a mix of new and legacy satellites. The future of GPS tracking is going to be more accurate and effective for personal tracking which brings more security for human beings, as well as business use.
Global positioning system play a vital role in the field of surveying, which is essential to any new development such as electrification, telecom tower placement, installation of pipelines, construction of damp etc. Global positioning system functions efficiently on this as it enables 2,5cm real time positioning accuracy. In the field of construction it helps through faster site preparation, enhance management of assets, equipment, precise machine control and real time progress tracked remotely.
Apart from all the special aspects and advantages of Global Positioning system the more prominent factor can be notified is its accuracy of timing. Global Positioning System time is theoretically accurate to about that of 14 nanoseconds which is much more than of the older systems, due to the clock drift where the atomic clock experience in global positioning transmitters. Anyhow due to the influence of hackers and other technical related issues prevail in the society most of the receivers trapped in an unwanted situation to lose accuracy interpretation of the signals and are only accurate to 100 nanoseconds.
Even though at the primary stage of this united state department of defense in nineteen seventy three for the use by the United States military and became operational in nineteen ninety five. After a deep consideration it was decided that to allow for civil use in the nineteen eighties. As a result constellation of approximately working at least twenty four satellites were made to create the global positioning system that orbits the earth and make it possible for people with ground receivers to pinpoint their geographical location accurately and easily.
The United States is currently seeking to create new system with more likely to have and benefitting much more than the earlier. To fulfill the aim the United States is committed to an extensive modernization program including the implementation of the second and third civil signals on global positioning satellites. It is expected that the second civil signals will improve the accuracy of the civilian service provided now and support some safety of life applications. The fundamental purpose of improving the function of the third signals is to further enhance civilian capability and rest from the above it is primarily designed for the purpose of safety of life applications, aviation can be better defined for this. Improving and enhancing the global positioning system’s performance through modernization promotes the United States policy of maintaining leadership in the service, provisions and the use of global navigation systems.
