God is at work in the world to defeat and get the rid the world of the tragic sin of mankind. All of mankind are sinners from the time Adam and Eve broke God’s command not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Now the result is that every person enters into this world from birth as a sinner and enemy of God who is the Creator to whom they ought to worship. God’s mission is to destroy the work of the Satan and he will. The ultimate purpose of God’s mission is a reversal of the Fall and the crushing of Satan.
God is doing this by the power of the gospel. The gospel is advancing throughout the world through God’s people bearing witness to the truth even in the midst of suffering because their love for Christ cannot be quenched. Believers can have confidence that nothing will stand in the way of God completing his mission because God is faithful and therefore what he has started and says he will do, he will complete. It is important to be apart of this plan because it is the ultimate purpose in life, because everyone’s ultimate purpose is to glorify and worship God.
The Creator is working to complete his mission and everyone and everything was created for God’s glory. God’s mission purpose is the destruction of the work of Satan. God is redeeming sinners to himself and rescuing them from their sins and the power of the evil one Acts. After the Fall, the Lord foretold of the future destruction of Satan by saying, “I will put enmity between you and the women, and between your offspring and her offspring, he shall bruise you head, and you shall bruise his hell”. The promise of the gospel continued with Abraham. As Stott says, “God chose one man and his family in order, through them, to bless all the families of the earth”. The offer of the blessing is given to all of humanity. It was intended form the beginning that all the world be blessed from Abraham’s seed i.e. descendent. The only true God chose one family and through his descendants came Jesus Christ. “So that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith”. In Christ Jesus today we receive the fulfillment of the blessing of Abraham. In Christ Jesus those justified which is by faith receive the blessing of Abraham. “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law so that we might receive adoption as sons”. From Abraham’s descendants came forth the God man who is the only mediator, the Lord. Jesus Christ by whom man can be saved from the wrath of God. However, because of the god of this world, mankind is blinded to the truth, and have exchanged worship of God for the worship of the creation. “So, the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole word; he was cast to the earth, and his angles were cast out with him”. Satan destruction is certain and the end of his deception soon.
Through the power of the gospel, God is advancing his kingdom in this world. With faith in Christ, we are Abraham’s spiritual children. God’s plan from the beginning was the gospel. We “know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, forseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying ‘In you shall all the nations be blessed,’ So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith”. Christ is the fulfillment of the promise of blessing to Abraham. The Old Testament foretold that Christ is for all nations. When Christ arrived, he prophesied many from the nations “will come from the east and west, and reline at table with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the Kingdom of heaven. Also, in the great commission in Matthew 28 Jesus commanded his disciples to go to all nations. He told them that they will be witnesses to the entire earth. The church’s mission is to glorify God through the preaching of the gospel. It is through gospelizing i.e. evangelizing that the church is built. At the end the gospel will be preached to the whole world. The gospel is the person and work of Jesus Christ for the redemption of sinners. It is only with faith in Christ that one can be saved from his sins and be transferred out of the kingdom of darkness and into the kingdom of God. It is only in the gospel message which isfound in Scripture that sinners are saved.
The Gospel is advancing throughout the world through those who count the cost to follow him and suffer for his name. Paul said he was an ambassador for Christ pleading for all to be reconciled to God. As an ambassador for Christ the world wanted to kill Paul because they killed Christ. As Jesus said, “A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me”. Paul’s consuming passion was Christ and nothing of this world was important in comparison. Those who enter into service because of their love for Christ ought to expect suffering. Paul suffered throughout his life and this is to be expected for all in battle with the forces of darkness. Lord told Ananias that he would “show how much he must suffer for the sake of my name”. Paul told Timothy that “You must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ”. Some Christians especially in the western world want to be used by God but few are because they focus their minds on the things of this world. McClung said, “Too many people want the fruit of Paul’s ministry without paying the price that Paul paid. He died. He died to everything. He died daily” (Prospectives 205). Paul was willing to suffer and die for Christ. Also, God desires his own to be holy and trials test believer’s faith and has a purifying effect on the saint.. With a purified life that is through repentance and faith and being conformed to the image of Christ by the Spirit, God’s people are ready and usefulfor service.
Nothing will stop God’s mission. Now people from all nations are being called to him. God’s intention has always been “to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven making peace by the blood of the cross”. He made “known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth”. It was always from the beginning in the mind of God to reverse the effects of the fall and to create a new world where there would be righteousness. The gospel has always been God’s plan and it is the center of his story. This is the good news that the eternal Son came as a man and by spread of the word of Christ people come to faith in Christ and thereby receive Salvation. It does not matter what the Satan will through at the Christian God’s redemption of sinners will not fail. Nothing can stop the mission for it the work of God, and no one can halt the work of God in his people. The ultimate purpose of man is to glorify God through worshiping and serving him and man can do so because of reconciliation through faith in Christ.
