Harry Styles: Journey from One Direction to Solo Stardom

Introduction

Harry Styles is a 25-year-old English singer, songwriter and actor. Styles's career all began on an English talent show competing against his soon-to-be lifelong friends. Then later pursues a solo career which as of late is working out very well for the young successful man.

Early Childhood of Harry Styles

Harry was born on February 1, 1994 in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire which is in the West Midlands region of England. At a very young age parents, Des and Anne divorced. Harry and his sister, Gemma were brought up by their mother in the town of Holmes Chapel in Cheshire. But his mother was later remarried to Robin Twist. From a very young age Styles enjoyed singing. Three of his close friends and him who all went to school together at Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School formed a band named White Eskimo which Harry sang lead for. The band was successful and popular within their small community the four friends won an award in a school competition. Little did Styles know this wouldn’t be his first talent show he would win.

Beginning of Harry Styles' Career

In 2010, (only being 16 years old) Harry auditioned for an English television show “The X Factor.” He got through a few rounds before being cut as a solo singer right before finals. But judges Simon Cowell and Nicole Scherzinger decided to bring him back and place with four other teenagers his age who were all also competing to continue to compete as a group. Young boys Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Zayne Malik, and of course Harry Styles came back for finals as a group. Even though these boys were practically strangers they all had a few things in common, they were all singers and had determination to finish off the competition strong. The five singers called themselves One Direction which supposedly was Harry’s idea. Regardless of the fact they finished “The X Factor” third place Simon Cowell instantly signed a Syco music label with the group. Which is something he wouldn't regret knowing all the groups success they will experience.

Success of One Direction

Quickly after the “The X Factor” the boys began to find success. Harry began singing the lead vocals of most of the band’s songs. In September 2011 “What Makes You Beautiful” was released in the United Kingdom. In 2012, One Direction's first album dropped and was a best seller in the United States and the United Kingdom. Another huge help for the band was they performed in the closing of the Olympics in 2012 in London. The band also experienced success when four of their albums hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In 2015, Zayn Malik decided to leave the band to pursue a solo career. After that the remaining four dropped two more albums even though it was open to the public they wouldn't be together for much longer. Their audience mostly contained of young girls who were all heart broken when they all decided to go their own ways, but were for sure very loyal till the end.

Harry Styles: Solo Career

Harry Styles released his first solo album on May 17th, 2017. His album was an introduction of his solo career which is why it is titled “Harry Styles.” “Sign of the Times” is Harry’s most famous song. This song is in perspective of a mother who experienced a difficult childbirth which resulted in the baby dying. Also, the high-end fashion company selected Harry Styles to be the face of a men’s tailoring campaign. During Harry’s tour he promoted and wore all Gucci clothing.

Harry Styles just recently dropped his second album December 13th, 2019, titled “Fine Line.” “Fine Line” is a break up album that’s often sorrowful but reflects how the 25-year-old is navigating love and feeling sad. In mid-November Styles promoted his album on Saturday Night Live as a host and a musical guest. As of December 13th, 2019, “Adore You” by Harry Styles us #9 on top charts. The singer is beginning is tour in 2020 and current net worth is 58 million euro.

Conclusion

Harry Styles is a flourishing young man who simply started on an English talent show which was very successful. He was in a five-man boy band for five years before he decided to go solo. His solo career is only thriving and growing, he is an extremely motivated and determine young man. He is not afraid to speak up for what he believes in which is shown through his music.
