A Comfort Room is a public place can be referred as a restroom, a washroom or comfort room station. It is a room or small building with toilets (urinals) and sinks that belongs to everyone. It’s also referred to as a ladies room and men’s room. It also has mirror to see yourself. Our current issue of separate restroom for lgbt for this essay is the incident involving trans woman Gretchen Custodio Diez who was not used in the women’s comfort room in Quezon City.
Gretchen Custodio Diez is a trans woman that was prevented from using a women’s restroom by a janitress who told that she use the men’s restroom. She always uses female restroom every single day. She said that she feel in line for woman’s restroom at around 1:30pm when an janitress told her step out and go to men’s restroom instead. As she started walking away, she realized she had to do something. She ask the janitress why she was not allowed in the women’s restroom, then the janitress “dragged” her to the security room to have her arrested. Diez is a proud trans woman who can express herself as woman. They say that this is the first time this happened.
Call of Vice Ganda that “it is good for the government to make a bill that protects the safety of everyone and LGBT community also. Separate restroom for the transgender community. Because every time there is an LGBT presence in our C.R there are people who inevitably feel uncomfortable, that’s why we have to make another Comfort Room for them. Because it considered as a big issue, because when LGBT go in comfort room of men’s, the men’s are not comfortable as long as the LGBT too, when LGBT go in comfort room of ladies, the ladies not comfortable, then the LGBT is not comfortable too. That’s why they requested separate comfort rooms for LGBT.
As human beings, LGBT should be accorded the same rights, respect etc. For them to feel safe and comfortable in using restrooms. The members of the third sex have different opinion, many gays that they feels insulted when people are laughing at his back every time they goes to a male restroom. For some lesbians, as part of third sex, they are not anymore necessary to have a restroom because ever since LGBT are free to choose between male and female restroom. But for some ladies, they are uncomfortable every time a LGBT person enters their comfort room because we don't know if she's just pretending to peek. Some Provincial governments wants to denounce any form of discrimination against anybody based on their sexual orientations and gender identities. In their ordinance, they states that the “society has slowly come to realize that the abusing and discriminating against whose gender appear to normative standards”. They believes that they should be required to put up a separate facility for LGBT’s.
To end up, President Rodrigo Duterte’s has an idea to lessening discrimination against LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer people is to put up “3rd restroom” for them. He also inclined to support 3rd restrooms for them, so they have their own (gender neutral restroom). But Panelo said that “Just for LGBT. Just for them, not both”. However, Panelo said that he himself would support restrooms(common to all), regardless of gender, a gender neutral restroom. So we have to wait for government to come up in this kind of issue.
