Homicide Attacks in United States

Introduction

In relation with the Homicidal incidents United States of America stands as one among top ten countries in world ranking. In the National Survey it was documented that around 10,000 members were murdered by the Firearm and another 40,000 members were disabled annually. Generally the term homicide refers to the act of an individual is being murdered by other individual. In regards, to this there are certain factors plays a vital that causes the great threat of homicidal attacks. The basic factors that cause homicides might be age, race, gender and living in beggarly areas might be some of reasons to increase the threat of homicidal attacks. In General the Homicidal threats are performed by the group of members. Homicides are classified into several in which street homicides and home homicides are one among them. Street homicides refer to as the threat caused by the unknown persons. Home homicides refer to as the threat caused by the relations or friends.

For the info graphics in our project the dataset that is considered from the Kaggle source is regarding the homicide reports of the United States of America over the period between 1980 and 2014. We have considered the dataset that has been uploaded in the Kaggle source is in the year of 2017. The data set that was considered is add-on for the project “Murder Accountability”. In our project we have full information of manslaughter incidents that occurred in United States of America. In this dataset the Federal Bureau of Investigation has formed the reports about the homicidal incidents that have occurred across America over the time period between 1980 and 2014. In this report the data that is gathered is based on around 22,000 Homicidal incidents were not described. In this data set we consider the attributes as age, gender, Ethnicity and race of the victims and killer. And also we considered some attributes like Relationship and weapons that are used between the victims and Perpetrators. In the Info graphics the charts were used are:

• Different types of weapons used by the perpetrators by there and race.
• Type of crime and solved as per the incident occurred.
• Homicide Attacks by victim age.
• Percentage of Homicides in USA.
• Analysis of Homicide Incidents occurred as per state-wise and solved.
• Gender based homicidal attacks in different states of America.
• Annual Analysis total number of homicide incidents took place as per perpetrator age.
• Homicidal incidents as per perpetrator Ethnicity & Age.

In our project the dataset which we have considered is based on report on the homicidal incidents that occurred over the time period of 1980-2014 and it was uploaded in the year of 2017. First step, is to download the dataset from the Kaggle source and to create visualisation with the help of the Tableau Public version software. Next step is to create multiple visualisations based on the Measures and Dimensions that are provided in the dataset. For the complete process the tools that were used to create the info graphics is Visme & Tableau Public version software. We can create lot of info graphics through Visme software with the help of tools like templates, photos, icons & shapes. Visme software is widely used software to create info graphics through which we can build a story. In this we upload a background on the page of the block and also add some visualisation that we have built in the tableau software. We can also be used the icons & shape tools by dragging and dropping them long with adding the particular text. We can use some of icons & shapes from the software or either also can download from the online. Some of the images that were downloaded from the online can also be edited in the Photoshop software. When ¾ th part of the info graphics is created there may be some of the images or the visualisations which size could not be set so we finally add the image to the library of Visme and later can add to canvas to resize the visualisation to the expected size. Next procedure is that we can resize the images with the help of the Microsoft paint software.

From the info graphics we are trying to predict the overall homicide attacks that were occurred across the different states of America. In this info graphics we are trying to build the story based on the percentage of Homicidal attacks that were occurred as per the factors such as ethnicity, age, gender, race, incidents and crime solved.

The first visualisation that is considered is based on the different types of weapons used by the killers as per there age and race. In this the weapon that is used is the hand gun by the black race. Next comes the white race also mostly uses the handgun. The weapon that is used very race is that the suffocation with the unknown race.

The second visualisation represents about the Type of crime and solved as per the incident occurred. In this we have two categories of crimes one is the Manslaughter by negligence and other is the Murder. In this we have highest percentage for the murder that was solved. And we have less percentage for the negligence for which the crime history was stillpending.

The third visualisation Donut chart represents about the homicide attacks that were occurred based on the victim age. From this it was clearly explained that as per the state about of the severity of homicide attacks that were taking place based on the age of the victim.

The fourth visualisation represents about the analysis of homicide incidents that occurred as per the state-wise and solved. Based on the state-wise the severity of crime rate varies from state to state in United States of America where the crime rate for the homicide incidents is more commonly seen. There are also some of the states where the crime rate of homicides was solved.

The next visualisation is the tree map that represents about the Gender based homicide attacks based in different states of America. Here in the state of California the manslaughter is relatively high on males than females where males were mostly killed or disabled in the attacks. The lowest rate of homicide attacks was taken place on females in the state of North Dakota.

From the Gantt view, it was clearly represents the annual analysis of total number of homicide incidents that took place as per perpetrator age. In the year of 1981 the homicides were relatively high as per the perpetrator age. Next coming to the year of 1993 the manslaughters were some how controlled. At the end of year 2016 the homicide incidents were majorly less.

The final representation is the stacked bars which represents homicidal incidents that took place as per perpetrator ethnicity & age. Here there is less crimes recorded for the Hispanic ethnicity. There are more homicidal attacks took place on unknown ethnicity

Main intension of info graphic design is to make the audience understand about the impact of homicidal incidents on United States of America and severity of violence. I have used yellow colour in the background which indicates positivity and happiness. I have used the background colour in contrast to explain that America is advanced country in economy and technology but in some scenarios like gun violence and homicidal attacks its cowardice. I have used multiple colours in different visualisation of charts just to represent impact of homicides on different states of America depending on different factors such as gender, race, ethnicity, age, type of crime etc.

Bubble chart represents different types of weapons used by perpetrators for attacking victims as per there age and ethnicity. The Bar chart indicates that total number of crime incidents took place and solved and type of crime. Donut chart represents severity of manslaughters on different states in which many of victims suffered as per there age groups. Map chart shows total number of homicidal incidents occurred and resolved. Boundary percentage indicates as per American survey news 64.3% of homicidal attacks are taken place annually. Tree map shows different types on genders in different states of America. Gantt chart shows the total number of manslaughter incidents took place as per the perpetrator age. The stacked bar represents homicidal incidents took place as per perpetrator ethnicity and age.

The technology that were used for the creation of Info graphic design is:

Visme: This is most widely used software by many of the users for creating different types of info graphics designs. The software has many of different tools such as icons& shapes, templates, background, etc through which we can created different types of info graphic designs. We can drag and drop the icons & shapes and also can crop and resize images. I have created an account in Visme so that I can create unlimited info graphics in unlimited time as per my requirement and this is free version and convenient software that helps in creating multiple info graphics.

Based on the topic I have chosen building a real story on homicidal attacks in United States is quiet challenging task as its not possible to show the current annual report of manslaughters every year. But we are able to find the factors that causing the homicidal attacks and can make different types of visualisation and can explain about the percentage of severity of homicidal incidents on American Nationality. It is very difficult for us to take real time data and to make visualisation instead can consider the approximate value of data and can built numerous visualisations in order to make understand the severity of violence.

Conclusion

American Nationality is one among the top ten countries in the scenario of the manslaughter attacks in world ranking. These incidents are greatly caused by some of factors like gender, age, race, etc. These mostly performed by the group of members such as joy riders, stangers, etc.

The info graphic is designed just to bring some basic overview to audience about the violence and manslaughter rate even in the advanced country such as USA. There are many other tools available on the internet for the designing of info graphics as per requirement such as canvas etc out of which Visme has made my work easier. There are many tools present in this software such as icons & shapes which can be dragged and dropped, images can be cropped and resized, Background can also be uploaded or colour also can be used as background.
