How My Faith in God Helps Me Find a Purpose of Learning

As a dedicated student and Christian, in this essay about my faith in God, I will dicuss how it has helped me find a purpose of learning. As a result, what I mainly look for in a college is one that will provide me with the necessary means and encouragement to successfully embarque on the journey that is academic faithfulness. I deeply believe that the college that can provide me with these means, further my education, and help me strengthen my faith in God is Westmont.

For me, academic faithfulness means that since God calls every student to think faithfully about learning as a student, I should strive to dedicate my learning in college to God. This for me entails the minor things such as doing homework and studying faithfully, caring about the things that I am learning, paying attention in class, helping out my classmates...etc. It is through academic faithfulness that I will grow not only intellectually, but spiritually. Like with everything, academic faithfulness takes hard work however, at Westmont’s college, if accepted, I know that I will be able to take on and conquer the challenge.

Furthermore, a Christian’s life goes far beyond academics as it is just one of the aspects of life that is under Christian Discipleship. In the same manner as academic faithfulness, as a follower of Christ, I also seek to pursue faithfulness in these other aspects of life in college and a Westmont education will offer me the opportunity to do so. At Westmont college, I will get to presence and practice faithfulness in my relationship with others as I know that I will be able to count on all my Christian professors and peers for guidance in my spiritual development. It is very important for me that Westmont college also offers chapel services on Sunday evenings as I know that apart from regular worship, prayer, and deep dialogue with peers there is no place for growth. Another aspect in which I will be able to discern and nurture faithfulness is in my care for the poor and needy as I know that Westmont offers the opportunities to help out with the homeless, tutor in Santa Barbara schools, and more. To go out even further, a Westmont education also offers the option to travel, one of my relentless passions, to places like Uganda, Mexico, Peru,...etc, to both serve those communities and grow in learning.

Essentially, a Westmont education, through its rigorous programs and dedication to God, will provide me with the proper tools to properly fulfill my purpose on Earth which is serving God and others in all multiple facets of life. The only way in which I will be able to grow as a person is when my personal dreams and ambitions are connected to the purposes that God has intended for us and I will be able to find this at Westmont.
