Technology has definitely changed people’s lives. Some may say it is mostly for the better, and some may say for the worse. Technology is used in everyone’s daily life no matter the age or occupation. Even though technology has a multitude positive effects, technology is negative on people’s lives because it causes unnecessarily causes stress levels to rise and it increases loneliness.
Technology is negative on society’s interactions with humans by causing a dramatic rise in stress levels. Firstly, someone who constantly uses technology will experience an often worry about if their specific piece of technology will work when they may need it. For example, no one in this modern society could deny they have heard someone complain their technology is not working, rather it be a cell phone, computer, tablet, or television, people stress about their electronic device not cooperating. For example, a student could be typing an important essay for college on his or her laptop. Suddenly, the screen goes black, and the entire essay is lost forever. The student is now faced with the colossal stress of remembering and retyping the entire essay. Technology may have saved his or her hands from aching with writer’s cramp, but the time consuming and unhealthful stress could have been avoided by handwriting the essay. Secondly, when faced with situations where technology is not allowed it becomes more stressful for an individual. People living in a technology surrounded society have become much attached to their smart phones, laptops, tablets, etcetera. This becomes a problem when they must do a daily task without their electronic. For instance, someone may be faced to do a mathematic problem, an easy task with a calculator. Though, without that “life solving” calculator, many adults may not be able to calculate that problem correctly. Not having the correct answer will “stir up” even more stress in calculating the mathematical problem. Thirdly, worrying about having the newest and niftiest technology will provoke unneeded stress. This will happened in two major ways both in the financial and in the mind consuming thoughts that could roam through an individual’s head. The financial state of many modern families is already very stressing, but having the want of new technology will adjoin to the stress. For example, many Apple-loving teenagers and adults were quiet satisfied with their iPhone 5 and even their iPhone 4s; this was until Apple released their next generations, the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c. Parents were stressing to buy their needy children the nest Apple cell phone. This is a struggle for the middle class and the not-so-wealthy parents. Many parents go insane with stress trying to satisfy their children.
The overuse of technology also dramatically increases loneliness. Firstly, individuals will become lonelier by not being around others face to face. Real-time human interactions are essential for healthy living, and technology may give a similar experience. Though, it does not fully fulfill the need of being around real people. For instance, Apple has an app names FaceTime and there is a program called Skype; both are for video chatting. Video chatting give face to face like feeling that may temporarily satisfy the want of human interaction, but this will never completely fill the need. Secondly, someone may begin losing friends because of being so caught up in technology. This especially happens in the younger, teenage generations. To illustrate, a teenager may spend all of their spare time blogging on an website such a Tumblr. He or she may begin losing their friends because they are not hanging out with their friends anymore. This will begin to cause loneliness in his or her life. Loneliness is unhealthy for the human race, and should be avoided at all costs.
Nevertheless, some people may contend that technology is essentially positive on people’s lives. To begin with, an individual may dispute that technology increases human interaction by allowing people to contact in each hour of the day. They may believe this will increase someone’s social life. However, this will lead to decreasing real time human interaction and true social life; which with damage a persons social health. Also, someone may indicate that technology allows people to talk from any given distance. This may be a constructive concept for a while, but will eventually lead to monumental relationship problems between to individuals. Technology will now manufacture an excuse for no visitation between two people. Seeing someone face to face is a much better experience than over a cell phone or computer.
Technology negatively affects many individuals lives. It causes both stress and loneliness that is both damaging and unnecessary.
