We are all aware that the innovation of technology makes things easier for us. But in some ways, it can also be a threat to some things that might not be able to function the way they used to. Just like in the sports industry. Are you aware with that?
Of course, some of you might say "No way. Technology made it easier to catch updates about the latest news and updates of my favorite team." Yes, those are just one of the positive impacts of the technology to sports industry. We are all aware of the positive things it contributed. But how about the negative ones? Are we, people, not noticing what is happening in the reality while we are busy, sitting still and getting entertained by our own gadgets? That's the problem in our generation. We wasted so much of our time indoors. Why? Because with just one click, you can know what happened outside. With one search, you can get updated about the latest news. One chat away, and you are already talking with your friends. Instead of hanging out with them. Well, let's get back on its impacts to the sports industry.
Some fans became subscribers on YouTube, Facebook, Instagram or twitter and other live streaming apps because a lot of sports coverage are accessible everywhere on the internet. Even through our television and radios. Satellites made its contribution for us to watch or listen to the league live. The positive side of the story is that you easily have access about the latest news and updates about your favorite team. But its negative side is it lessens our encouragement to make an effort to see them in person. Some fans are just contented alone on their own room watching live streams or replays of the competitions rather than watching them live on the arena, cheering them personally instead of tweeting their good luck on their idols. Gladly, some fans just love their idols enough to make an effort to see them in person. Tickets are still sold and chairs are still being occupied. What else is the role of the news papers if we can find different sources of the news on the internet?
Moving on to the next topic. How about improving ones skill? Yes, technology has to do with that. Some trainers or coaches reveal their strategies on YouTube. People can learn it through just grabbing their ear phones, listening and understanding, and then they can now practice on their own and improve through time. Because of people's awareness to the training methods which can be found everywhere in the internet, people won't have the need to enroll on training sessions and pay for the coach. It's less hassle and can save them money. So the result? Coaches are loosing trainees. Training schools are losing coaches and students. They both loose salaries. But we have to keep in mind that sometimes, having only your own is not enough. Even famous star players still has their own coach through out the game. Trainers are expert for a reason. They became trainers for a purpose. They know a lot better than you because they experienced a lot. They have been through wherever you are. Internet information is not suitable for everyone because we all have different types of health. We might get injured if we practiced the wrong way. Our body might not be capable of doing trainings provided by the internet. Trainees know how to train us in safer ways because they can monitor us. They can provide alternatives. They can always figure out ways for us to handle things. Unlike the internet.
The rise of Virtual Reality technology has also its impacts. As video games played a big role in the entertainment of our generation, some devices creates an illusion of a virtual reality gaming experience which is really incredible for those who love gaming and can also attract non-gamers. With this technology, everyone can now play games like car racing and make you feel you are in the reality. NBA game is also a good game for the virtual reality program because it really feels like the game is right in front of you not HD quality, not 3D quality, but 4D quality gaming experience. There are lots of games that works better with this kind of devices. Especially sports games. It is much easier because rather than playing on the field and getting you body sweat and tired, you're just comfortable sitting on your own room, facing a monitor while your hands are holding a joystick that makes you able to control the rest of the game. Well, it sounds interesting. But do you think you will be better at those sports while you are indoors? Of course not, you might learn a little but experiencing it in the real world is a different story. You get the health benefits that technology cannot give you. You learn the competitive skills that those devices can not teach you. So instead of playing those games and improving your character's skills, why don't you try to be the character itself and play in real world? You can do what your game character do. You can be the star player of your favorite sports, not just the famous game character.
Technology, in some ways, can clearly be a threat to the sports world but it does not mean that technology shall be removed because it is a harm. Technology also has big contributions to the sports industry. But we shall not be blinded of what the entertainment does to us. Because while we are busy enjoying what the generation has to offer, we fail to notice what it destroys.
