Introduction

Video games are an extraordinary tool that has revolutionized the world. They can change the whole surroundings and transport us to a virtual world to experience things we can’t experience in real life. So, what comes after this revolution?

How Video Games Change Our Society

Being a gamer can improve your cognitive and physical functions because video games engage your senses and require you to concentrate solely on the game. Being fully present in the game is necessary to succeed; otherwise, it becomes merely a waste of time (Granic, Lobel, & Engels, 2014). Aside from their primary purpose of entertainment, video games offer longevity and do not require new equipment every time you want to play.

Moreover, developing expertise in a particular game can provide financial opportunities through esports or streaming platforms. Some video games facilitate online interactions with friends and help forge new relationships over the internet. These connections sometimes lead to significant relationships, even marriage (Cole & Griffiths, 2007).

Video games also enhance decision-making abilities as many games allow players to shape outcomes based on their choices, emphasizing personal responsibility for the game's ending. Additionally, some hospitals use video games therapeutically to distract patients from pain (Kato et al., 2008). They can change one’s perspective on their environment, prompting thoughtful consideration before actions and offering insight into how others might think.

Furthermore, video games promote teamwork since not all are designed for solo play; communicating effectively with teammates is crucial for resolving challenges collaboratively. You learn leadership skills by assigning roles suited to each team member's strengths, thereby enhancing overall group performance (Gee, 2007).

Some educational systems incorporate video games into learning processes. Studies suggest that enjoyable learning experiences increase motivation and mastery of subjects (Squire & Jenkins, 2003).

The Downside of Video Games

Despite their benefits, video games can have detrimental effects if mismanaged. They can consume excessive time; hence players must balance gaming with personal responsibilities. Prolonged exposure to screen light may impair vision over time, necessitating corrective measures like glasses (Gentile et al., 2014).

Sedentary gaming habits contribute to obesity and high BMI due to decreased physical activity levels. Limited sunlight exposure among avid gamers could result in early bone weakness (Vanderwater et al., 2006).

The age classification system ensures age-appropriate content: adults may find children’s games unenjoyable while some titles unsuitable for minors due to violence or adult themes pose behavioral risks especially among impressionable youth.

While video games are lasting companions throughout life stages not everyone affords them given high costs per individual title plus expenses for electricity/internet usage (Williams et al., 2009).

Conclusion

Overall video games have dramatically altered our societies beyond mere entertainment by improving critical mental/physical skills essential today albeit potential negative health/time management aspects associated with prolonged usage.

The challenge lies within leveraging this investment responsibly maximizing its future benefits while mitigating any adverse effects through mindful engagement.
