The U.S. with its rapidly advancing air power experienced a shift in the way we see war in the 1930's. We made our allies more solid we bumped up our military tenfold. I also think a lot of unity came from this since the times there was a lot of world conflicts that we did not want to be involved in. I showed us as people how we band together in times of war.
Everyone with one common goal created an attitude that prepared people to see how far our military can stretch. We also pushed for the lend lease act that helped a lot in expanding our military. This was arranged in 1941 it was a neutrality law that let us build additional planes and other military hardware for loan to Great Britain. This made it easier for American designers to apply the experience from a British pilot into their new plane. We also integrated ground support and air support together more efficiently with the "rovers" riding around in their jeeps. They would communicate it allow for air patrols to get more direct hits on their targets.
We also started to move away from the man has to do everything idea during this era. Women started taking jobs that men would typically do and it shook the nuclear family that we knew back then. The wasps were also a big part of this although they popped up later in the war around 1942. They played a big role in the training and advancing our air tactics.
The Navy changed during this time also when they were ordered to start hunting submarines that they had in sight. Before this time the U.S. didn't seem to look at submarines as an important weapon until they started to attack and prey on U.S. ships. The navy also invested in dirigibles like the Akron which carried five biplane fighters for protection in the skies. The Akron did not last long but it showed that the U.S. was still pushing for a dominant air power until the very start. The dirigible did not last inn severe weather and it crashed in the coast of Delaware in the spring of 1933.
All that the Navy learned is that the lighter than air aircraft where the key to air dominance. We took to the seas as a nation with our planes and we created the P2Y it was a twin engine modified biplane. This marked the evolution of the navy's roles in the war when it came to aircraft. Our ties to Great Britain and sharing of power move our fighting style from a defensive to offensive. We changed the way we conduct business with reconnaissance and targeted attacks. We turned the United States into a huge war factory. This eventually would create the wealth and capabilities we have today as a nation. From the air mail to the Rovers to the B-29's we used the resources we had and won a war.
