Quiz contests come in different forms. Some contests are based on the speed of the contestants to give the correct answer, that is, whoever presses the buzzer first shall be the one who will give the answer. This type is practical for contests with less than five contestants. Other contests use devices that the contestants press to give their answers opt1 opt2 opt3 or opt4 but this type is practicable only for contests where answers are supplied through multiple choices and the mode of answering is by pressing the ’button’ that corresponds to one of the choices, either electronic or through a device. Some contests require all of the participants to give their answers within the allotted time, each answer is scored manually and tallied, and whoever has the highest score at the end of the last round wins.

During the contest proper, the questions are flashed on the screen; a Quiz master reads the question twice, then a timer is activated. Once the time is up, the contestants should stop writing, gives the acetate to the collector, the collector brings the acetate to the operator, and the answer of each contestant is flashed on the screen, and another person writes and tallies the scores. This process requires several people doing the collecting, the operation and the scoring, and consequently requires lots of time to do all of these processes. This research aims to remove the need for such manual process by using a hardware device and a Bluetooth connection. The hardware device serves as the contestants answer sheets through the use of a Scratch Pad Application. The answers are sent to the Master Unit (MU) through blue tooth. The MU contains the main program that has several GUIs for showing the Question of the answers that display on the screen and the running total of scores. A dedicated Blue tooth is set-up to create the local area network for the contestant devices and system. Each device is registered before the start of the contest where each contestant is provided the link of the blue tooth in the venue would not meddle with the entire quiz contest process. The rest of the paper is constructed as follows. Explains the quiz contest setup. In Next section, the process flow of the system along with the developed graphical user interface (GUI), the implemented system and then presents the evaluations and discussions based on the results. Finally, at last provides some concluding remarks and offers some recommendations for future work.

An interactive contest system is provided which permits competition among a plurality of remote participants. The system includes a central controller, storage devices for storing a Contest Roster from which each participant selects a team, a plurality of Touch-Tone telephones linked to the controller, and a publication such as a newspaper distributed to all participants. Each participant's team roster is evaluated on a periodic basis according to a formula for calculating each member's score employing a database of variable performance statistics which reflect the roster members' actual performances. Team totals are compared for discrete periods of competition to determine which participants have accumulated the highest score.

Any university, college, school or educational institute can use this system for their organization to take quizzes. Today it is the more efficient and effective methods of automated quiz contest system. One of the main benefits of our system is automated marking, that is, teachers do not need to check the answer script as they do in manual quiz. It saves valuable time of a teacher. On the other hand, students can score according to his/her merit level and it will give feedback about a student in which side he/she is weak.

Motivation

As automated systems are rapidly getting famous day by day and the number of its users are increasing with every blink of eye, because it is easy to access the necessary object in the scenario. Therefore, we found this idea interesting, easy and time efficient to facilitate the users in this way without any difficulty. There are many online quiz applications available on internet, but most of them are only for entertainment and fun. Moreover, if one is going to appear in any contest or test, then it is difficult and time consuming for them to manage the full whole contest at a time with multiple users. But the most attractive feature of our project is that we take real time contest and result management with the declaration of winner. Our project provides them the facility something advantageous at one place without wasting their time.

Manual Quiz System:

In the early days it was the most popular methods of assessing student. Still now the system is quite popular to the students as well as to the teacher. In this system there are several problems that we face in a common way. Some of those problems are:

  • Manual system requires pen/ pencils and paper.
  • Teacher needs to spend time to script checking.
  • Student needs to wait to get their result up to the teacher finishes the script checking.
  • These are the most common problems of manual quiz system that rotated each and every time of quiz held. For these causes the popularity of manual system decreases day by day and is taking the place of the manual system

Problem Description

The reason for designing this application is to automate the existing manual system that the admin need not to stuck at the system and enter answers given by the teams/contestants in existing. And on the last he has to calculate the result and announce it by him own which is too much time consuming and hard to do if competition time is so limited. This cause too much consumed in in result making in such sort of scenario.

Teams are provided with keyboard like five keys (four keys for options against question and one for buzzer). The advantage is that the admin need not to calculate the result manually. The system will automatically calculate the result of the contestant and each contestant’s results will be displayed in descending order. Lot of time will be saved using method of work and provide flexibility to the administrator to organize the event and give more time to other works.

Project Objectives

The basic objective of this project is to develop an intelligent trail contest with following features, namely:

  • Questions bank,
  • Time frame,
  • Result management,
  • Data Storage,
  • Multimedia support (Multimedia extended screen).

The main objective to create this Quiz contest application and hardware is to help the administrator for the preparation of necessary contest going to occurred. Through our project, admin can easily handle the contest just by adding the question to the system and on the key press question will be automatically changed on the front screen and contestant gives the answer which is further store by the system and maintain the result of each contestant and on last display the winner, and Analytical everywhere and anytime.
