For me, my interest in nursing comes from my mother and siblings who have all pursued successful careers in nursing. My picking nursing at the university level didn't come into my mind just like that it took working with my mother at our family-run businesses to see exactly how nurses positively impact people's lives. In this time she has helped me realize how demanding a career in Adult nursing is and what I should expect. After this, I spent a few months working with my mother at her office, seeing how healthcare workers are trained from lifting people with hoists to first aid procedures. My favorite thing about nurses is that they're always there to witness and celebrate incredible moments in people's lives from childbirth to someone finding out they've been cured of cancer. Because of this, I have lots of respect for nurses and thought I to pursue this career.
Whilst doing outreach with the local church EL-Shaddai I took part in many health and social care-related seminars where nurses would come to our church, and talk about different subjects. These included blood donation, mental health, and Hiv Aids all subjects I found interest in, afterwards, I began, my interest in nursing. After this, I took on a summer job in an adult nursing home although the role was only during my summer holidays. I now had seen for myself just what nurses do to help patients and families. Whilst at the nursing home I saw how they helped people in every aspect of their life from helping them get up for breakfast in the morning to asking them what they'd like to eat for lunch on that day. The part I enjoyed the most was seeing the personal relationship nurses gained from being with their patient's things like birthdays and wedding anniversaries were all celebrated in the nursing home. Nurses and assistants would always call family members to help organize special events and activities for residents. During this time I also saw some of the demanding aspects of the job from residents suffering from mental illness not cooperating with staff, through this, I saw that nursing requires someone with a patient caring personality who can wait, and see things from another person's point of view.
Initially, when I began my sixth form I did not know what career path I wanted to pursue, I thought about many things such as pilot, astronaut, etc. One of the ways I came to the decision of nursing was during my placement in my first year of the Sixth form. I was placed at a local charity Ontrak during this time I was working with young adults who had been kicked out of school because of their behavior. In my role, I had to write about what these adults did at Ontrak and how they helped the community, whilst I met several adults who were at Ontrak on community order sentences. They explained how they needed help, because of mental health issues, but couldn't get the help they needed, because of their current drug issues. At this time I wished I could have helped them although I didn't have the necessary qualifications.
Outside of the classroom, I am very passionate about everything to do with football and cars. on most weekends you'll find me with my mates playing football, and tinkering with my car. The best part about playing football is the constant communication between all members and hand-eye coordination, without this the team would fall apart. I pride myself on always being on the ball when it comes to football and sports my self-confidence and grit always get me through things.
