It Passion: The Reasons of Why I Chose It Industry

The career track I’m interested in is IT because I have a passion for IT. Ever since I was a kid, I was curious about what was inside a computer there was all of these different components inside the computer and I was amazed when I saw this I couldn’t believe all of these components made the computer run. So, in 2015 I went to B.O.C.E.S. for Computer Technology and got a certificate of completion and I went to Hunter Business School in 2016 and got another certification as well. I learned so much in these schools it made me want to help people so much so I started helping people with whatever technical problems they’ve had and they thanked me for their help and it felt great that I could help them with what they needed.

One of my long-term goals I’ve had since I was in high school was to pass the A+ certification. The A+ certification is a certification for Computer Service Technicians it certifies the competency of entry level PC Technicians in installing computers. Another long-term goal of mine, is to create an app that helps people and makes their lives easier I have no ideas yet but I plan on having one soon. The career track that I’m interested in relates to these goals because, it’s all IT related. Troubleshooting computer systems, building websites, web development, networking different devices with a switch or interconnecting one or more networks with a router, etc. My short-term goal is to get accepted into the Year Up program so I can pursue my career in IT and have an internship with a professional company like Microsoft, while having the support from the Year Up community such as the Academics team and the Program Management team.

I was talking to one of my mentors and she emailed me this program called Year Up. I went on this website and done some research to learn more about the careers that Year Up has to offer. In the about us section I learned that Year Up is a non-profit organization and it wants young adults to have the opportunity to be successful and contribute to society. I’ve also learned about the teams and roles that Year Up offers Admissions & Outreach is a good role because it reaches out to young adults and helps them or connects with them to get an opportunity at Year Up. Program Managers are the ones who guide young adults to success in a professional manner and make them more knowledgeable in their specific role. Academics instructors teach people about IT or Finance and students succeed as professionals. The Student Services team helps students at Year Up with challenges they face inside and out also they’re spreading their community resources to best help their students. The Corporate Engagement team builds partnerships with top-tier companies and supports their students in getting a 6-month internship in their professional career. These are the career tracks that are really interesting to me and will help me get to where I need to be as I’m learning to grow.

The careers I’m interested in relative to my personal career is Student Services, Influence, and IT. I’m interested in Student Services because, I want to help students as well and make them feel good about themselves, help them with whatever problems they have, and make them overcome challenges so they can become successful. I’m interested in Influence because, I also care about making Year Up better as well. Not making any student feel left out, having programs that will benefit students in each aspect of their lives, and listening to students more who have ideas on how Year Up can improve as an organization. The last career I’m interested in is IT because, I love IT with a passion helping people with whatever problems they have talking to other people who are just as passionate as me in IT and just learning more about the newest technology that is out now or will be coming in the future as this world is evolving and having more A.I. change the way we live today.
