A heart-warming story about how a little hard work and friendship can change a life; The Ultimate Gift shows even the most stubborn can change. Through the ups and downs you follow Jason through the 12 quests that his late grandfather Red set up to see if he is worthy of his inheritance. As he completes these tasks he forms an unlikely bond with a little girl Emily and her mother Alexia.
To earn his inheritance, after his grandfather Red passes away, he must first complete a task. He is sent to a harm in the middle of Texas where his is to dig fence post until Gus thinks he has done a sufficient job. With all his money and property gone his girlfriend and all his friend leave. While sleeping on a bench in the park he is woken up by Alexia, and her outspoken daughter Emily. Emily and Jason aggress to tell Mr. Hamilton that they are close friends and they expect to continue the friendship forever. Jason ends up finding Alexia’s purse in the park, and upon returning the purse he finds out that Emily has cancer. Jason then spends the rest of the film trying to fulfill anything that Emily wants. After working the next few months to complete the rest of the task he earns he inheritance of $1,000,000, which he spends to create a home for kids with serious disease and their families. When presenting Emily’s Home to a board Alexia gets a call that Emily has passed away. For going above and beyond with the money he was given Red rewards he with the final gift of $2,000,000,000.
In this heart warming film to get to see how the rich live and how heartless they can be, as in the case of Jason’s aunts and uncles. Through he task he learns life lessons and is given a new prospective on life. The music that accompanies these tasks has an impact on your emotions. The sub-plot of Alexia and Emily also digs into your emotions and has you wondering the whole time if Emily will survive her Cancer.
Though the movie is very emotional, very little of it is believable and often over dramatic. The task where he is sent to a remote jungle town and is captured by smugglers is not needed and I feel is a waste of time. There are very few details of his father’s death, making it very confusing. The butterfly also appears throughout the movie as a symbol of Emily being free. This part becomes very repetitive and a bit tacky as something only a Hallmark movie would offer.
This is a good family movie that will have you wondering what is next for Jason, and will he do the right thing. At the same time it keeps you hoping for the best with Emily. Though it proposes some fairly unrealistic plot twists, this is a great movie to watch at family gatherings like Thanksgiving.
