Luka Modric is a Croatian international football player who plays for the Spanish giant Real Madrid football club. He is a midfielder and can play in both the attacking and defensive roles. Luka is known for his excellent vision, passing, and playmaking. He has been crucial for every team he has played for whether it is Croatian International football team, Real Madrid CF, Tottenham Hotspurs, or Dinamo Zagreb.
The player was born in a village in Croatia and grew up during the war of independence of Croatia. The rough conditions didn't hold him back from playing the game he loved. He kept on pursuing football and eventually got a chance to play for Dinamo.
In 2002, Luka Modric made his debut and won the league title for the next three years. He was a crucial part of the winning team and had a major impact. His excellent performances earned him a reputation across Europe and the English football club Tottenham Hotspurs signed him in 2009. He also took Tottenham to new heights as the club went on to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 50 years.
In 2012, Luka Modric signed for Real Madrid CF for a rumored fee of $40 million. He couldn't perform up to his reputation under Jose Mourinho and faced criticism. However, Carlo Ancelotti was appointed as Real Madrid CF's coach next season and the Croatian was an integral part. He won a UEFA Champions League title in 2014 providing a crucial last-minute assist to Sergio Ramos.
In 2016, Zinedine Zidane was appointed as the first team manager and the golden period of Real Madrid and Luka Modric began. The club went on to win three consecutive UEFA Champions League titles and various other trophies as well.
Although Luka Modric has been named as one of the best midfielders of his generation and the best one at the moment, he has never been involved in big money moves. Nor has he earned a big amount of money at any of the clubs and his net worth remains as low as $7.5 million.
His per week wage at Real Madrid is almost $190,000 which makes it 9.2 million a year. However, with Luka Modric performing brilliantly in the 2017-18 season and at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, he is expected to get a pay rise. The club might not hesitate to increase his salary as they wouldn't want to lose their second best player after Cristiano Ronaldo left for Juventus.
