Making Traditional Food from Ghana

My family emigrated from Ghana, located in West Africa. We have been living in America for a few years now and we still hold on to our traditions. Things such as food, tradition and practices shape my family today. Africans foods such us fufu, banku and rice are eaten more at home. These foods bring the family together by allowing us to talk every night. Fufu and banku can’t be made without the family. This is because when its on the stove, we need to support the person making the food by holding down the pan the food is made in. As the pan is held down, we laugh and tell jokes. Practices also have shaped the Attakora family. We believe that respect is to be given to everyone including youngsters. Even though children are respected, they are forced to be obedient when home, so that this morale can stick with them in public. Meaning, when the children are not home, they will then respect everyone they see outside. A tradition such as eating together has shaped my family. It has allowed us to come close together and share stories. Foods, practices and traditions have shaped the family because it has allowed us to come together with respect. These prevent disagreements in the house and make us one happy family.

The value that defines my family the most is respect. We believe that respecting each other will make us one happy family. It will also open ways for us in the future. Without respect, the family will be torn apart. In the bible, God said to obey your parents and your elderly. My family has taken this into consideration because we believe that, if we do this, we will be blessed. Three things my family do to honor this value is teaching the children what is right or wrong, how to communicate with God and a good model in the house. Mr. and Mrs. Attakora have been teaching the children in the house how to respect. We have been thought how to ask or answer question politely. Listening and studying what goes on around the house permits us to respectful. Talking to God is another important morale my family does to honor this value. We believe that if we communicate with the almighty, he will guide us and show us the right things that should be done. We do all this things because it allows us to leave a benevolent and respectful life.
