Mansa Musa was the king of the ancient empire of Mali in West Africa. He was the ninth Mansa of the Mali Empire. During Musa's reign, Mali may have been the largest producer of gold in the world. Musa has been called the wealthiest individual in history. In 1324–1325, Musa performed the Hajj.
Mansa Musa died in 1337 after a twenty-five year reign and was succeeded by his son, Maghan I.
