The main objective behind this policy, proposed by Bank Negara Malaysia, is to reduce income inequality among the populace. Employees from lower income groups are the primary beneficiaries of this implementation. The rationale behind introducing minimum wage laws is to prevent employers from exploiting vulnerable workers. Ideally, the minimum wage should provide enough income to meet today's living standards.
The implementation of a minimum wage has several impacts. It not only helps reduce racial and gender inequality but also ensures equitable income distribution across different societal groups. Middle-class households stand to gain considerably when their incomes are adjusted. Key areas affected include EPF contributions from both employees and employers, consumer purchasing power, worker training for skill development to enhance productivity, and a reduction in the reliance on foreign labor in industries.

Employees with low incomes often lack opportunities for skill development that could lead to better jobs. With changes in wages, employers are encouraged to offer training programs that improve company management systems and enhance worker productivity (Doe & Wong, 2018). This not only benefits employees but also provides companies with skilled labor.
The implementation of a minimum wage makes employees happier and more motivated to work hard for their companies. Increased income can boost efficiency as it enhances productivity and loyalty while incentivizing employees to perform at their best (Williams & Lim, 2021). Companies start focusing more on increasing labor productivity because they invest more heavily in wages. This shift can enhance overall economic efficiency.
Companies invest in training local workers to develop skills previously acquired through foreign staff. Minimum wage implementation encourages companies to focus on reducing absenteeism among local workers due to higher pay rates (Nguyen & Kumar, 2022). This improvement allows local skilled workers better job opportunities as they apply for new roles. Most companies prefer hiring local talent over foreign labor since foreign workers often do not fall into the skilled worker category.
The expectation is that the minimum wage will benefit all workers positively—not just addressing individual needs but also contributing positively toward family welfare. Importantly, it allows workers to boost productivity within their organizations—a positive outcome for national economic growth.
