Misty May is a famous beach volleyball player, she has attended many Olympic games for, beach volleyball. Misty May and her teammate Kerri Walsh are considered the greatest beach volleyball team of all time, after they won three straight Olympic medals, in 2004, 2008, and 2012. Misty was born July 30, 1977 in Los Angeles. Her mom, Barbara May was a formally nationally ranked tennis player. Misty’s dad Bob “Butch” May was a member of the 1968 Men’s National Volleyball team.
Misty has two brothers, Brack and Scott. Misty played her first volleyball tournament when she was 8 years old with her dad. Misty went to highschool at Newport Harbor High School, she helped her team win 2 state championships when playing indoor volleyball, in 1992 and 1994. She went to Long Beach State for college. She majored in kinesiology and physical education. Misty was the captain of her college team which became the first women's NCAA volleyball team to go undefeated in 1998. After college Misty went on to play beach volleyball, in the olympics. In the year 2000 at the Sydney olympics Misty played her first olympic games she placed fifth with her partner Holly McPeak. The year after she partnered up with Kerri Walsh Jennings. They were named Federation Internationale de Volleyball Tour Champions in 2002, and named Team of the Year in 2003. In 2004 they dominated with an 89-game win streak, eventually winning the gold. She also married professional baseball player Matt Treanor in 2004. They continued to dominate after winning the gold in 2008.
Also in 2008, the duo broke their own records by winning 19 straight tournaments and 112 consecutive matches. In 2011 Misty had a new partner but reunited with Kerri in 2011 preparing for the 2012 olympic games. Misty retired after the 2012 games and had her first child in 2014. After winning three consecutive gold medals together, May-Treanor retired from the sport to spend time pursuing other goals. Misty May recently had fraternal twins and is happy to be starting a family. She is now coaching a Volleyball team of her own. I think Misty is very inspirational because I love playing volleyball, it really shows that Kerri Walsh and Misty May had great chemistry when on the court because when they played together it showed that they were a perfect fit as teammates. This inspires me to get out and play with my friends more so they come to realize that volleyball is a great sport, and it brings people closer together.
