Imagine a world where the society and government are corrupt, somewhere your gender gets to decide if you will live a life with chances and opportunities or not. Imperial China demonstrates this scenario in a perfect manner. During that time period, women were not allowed to have a practical freedom that Modern China somewhat offers. To this today women are automatically sorted into the less wanted genders because of the one-child policy. When looking at China through a government perspective, both Imperial and Modern are corrupt. In Imperial times there were no strong, enforced rules towards who helped run a whole country. Civil service exams-takes offered bribes in order to pass the test but the poor did not have the advantage of wealth.
Overall, Modern China complimented feminism and politics. In both Modern and Imperial China the wealthy had all the advantages because they had easier access to everything. They would bribe their way out of taking the test and did not put in any effort in actually being able to do the job. For example “. . . examiners could be bribed, and early stages of the exam process could be skipped for a fee. ”(Crozier 1) The government was scrambled because there was a huge advantage towards the rich and the rules were not very strongly prosecuted. The people could have had not studied Confucius and been assigned to be a government official which would cause a lot of disturbances. Modern China is still corrupt that even “The Chinese leadership agrees that corruption is widespread…”(Feldstein 1). However there is a big probability that the officials are trying their best to make Modern China better.
During Imperial Chinese times women were not allowed have any freedom ranging from their movements to how loud they laugh. During Imperial China’s time only men were granted permission to partake in the civil service exams however in modern times today women are given the chance to be prosperous because “Seven of the world’s top 10 wealthiest women are Chinese. ”(Le Stout 2) The success of these women may have been because of their ancestors but the fact that they were given the chance to expand their wealth is a big advancement from women not being able to turn their heads when walking to be able to possess money under their name.
