The movie I decided to choose for this paper was called, “Remember the Titans.” I chose this movie because it depicts a great sense of moral ethics throughout the plot, for example, right vs. wrong. The movie has many scenes where it displays a right moral mindset and a wrong moral mind set. In the movie, Coach Boone (also known as Denzel Washington) is the main focal point of the movie. Boone is an African American male in the 1970s who is thrown into a position to coach a football team is predominantly Caucasian.
Boone was forced to make certain choices in the movie that would affect himself and also the new football team. For example, in the movie he embarrassed the defensive team captain in front of the bus right next to his mother and teammates which caused a seen. In doing so, this created friction with him and a few of the Caucasian players. Also, within the movie Coach Boone decided to take out certain players to put better ones in, and some were African American. The consequences to this was that a brick was thrown into his home, and some parents decided to get angered.
The movie continued on and showed many examples that reflected Boones core values. He was able to unite the team regardless of race at a time when the country was divided by race. His decision to unite the team was influence by his core values, ethics, and dignity. No matter how much pressure and abuse he got for being an African American coach he was always able to overcome it.
Also, in the beginning of the movie when Boone took the original Coach Yosts job, he offered Yost a job under him. This resembled a sign of respect and great moral codes for Coach Boone. Yost did in fact take the job to be defensive coach, but at first, he was negligent, and denied out of spite.
Overall, from this movie I learned that morals in a person are everything, and that the choices you make affect others around you. Having great morals, values, and ethics define you as a person. Each of these affects you and the decisions you make in everyday life choices. Coach Boone was able not only abide by his moral ethic code, but he was able to spread it to the people around him and his players, making them choose the right decisions. He was able to influence his players to cooperate with each other and win games. Boone was able to impact the young players’ lives and show them that life has consequences but also great rewards when choosing the right decisions.
