My Attitude to Nikki Haley

Nikki Haley was born as Nimrata Randhawa in Bamberg, South Carolina, on January 20, 1972 to an Indian American Sikh family. She has been called “Nikki” by her family then and even now. Her dad Ajit Singh Randhawa, and mother Raj Kaur Randhawa, were originally from Amritsar, Punjab, India. Her dad was a teacher at Punjab Rural College, and her mom had gotten her law degree from the College of Delhi. She has three siblings Simran Singh, Charan Randhawa, and Mitti Randhawa She got married to Michael Haley in 1996 and has two children—Rena and Nalin Haley.

Haley herself attended Orangeburg Preparatory Schools in the area and graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting. At age twelve, she aided her mother in her clothing company—which would eventually become a multimillion-dollar business.

Nikki Haley was named to the governing body of the Orangeburg Region Council of Trade in 1998. She was named to the top managerial staff of the Lexington Assembly of Business in 2003. Nikki moved toward becoming treasurer of the National Relationship of Ladies Entrepreneurs in 2003 and president in 2004. She was the leader of the South Carolina Section of the National Relationship of Ladies Entrepreneurs and was seat for the 2006 Companions of Exploring Initiative Division battle. In May 14, 2009, Haley declared that she would keep running for the Republican selection for Legislative head of South Carolina in the 2010 elections. Haley had been convinced to keep running by Republican Check Sanford. On November 11, 2009, she was supported by Mitt Romney and Jenny Sanford. She was surveying in last place in the GOP race before an unexpected underwriting from previous Gold country Senator Sarah Palin, three weeks prior to the essential vote. The Republican gubernatorial essential occurred on June 8, 2010, and Haley caught 49% of the vote, constraining an overflow race on June 22. Haley won conveniently in the spillover vote. Haley was chosen senator on November 2, 2010, winning 51% to 47%. She is viewed as the third non-white individual to have been chosen as legislative head of a Southern state, after Virginia’s Douglas Wilder and Louisiana’s Bobby Jindal. She was also the 1st female governor of South Carolina. In 2012, it was spread that Mitt Romney, President Barack Obama’s opponent in the 2012 presidential race, would pick Haley as his vice-president. In any case, Haley said that she would decline any position he may offer her. Romney went ahead to declare Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan as his running mate for vice president in August 2012. She later delivered the official Republican response to President Obama’s 2016 State of the Union Address on January 12, 2016 and was among “The 100 Most Influential People” by Time magazine. On November 22, 2016, president-elect Donald Trump chose Haley as the United States ambassador to the United Nations. She respectfully accepted and dutifully stepped down from her position as South Carolina Governor to accept her new job.

Nikki Haley is an important leading figure to me because she is a strong, Republican woman who has defied the odds and risen in her position over the years. I may not be as successful as her since I have more limits than she—I was not born in the United States nor am I a U.S. citizen—but I know I can reach what goals I set for myself if I keep to them, stay confident, and know my material.
