Nursing is a career that is essential to society, nurses on a whole are people that looks out for the wellbeing of others than themselves. They possess qualities that are second to none and for me they are an asset to the health sector. These are some of the qualities they have not to mention what they acquire whilst doing the job on a day to day basis. They are dedicated, compassionate, reliable, problem solvers, analytical and caring. The list goes on, to be honest, growing up I always wanted to be in the army, but I found that my qualities didn’t match what I wanted to be. Fortunately, my dream to become a nurse seems quite achievable to me now and that is why I am writting this essay.
Many a times I found myself in difficult circumstances where I had to fight my way through and find the strength to encourage others. It has shaped me to be strong, vigilant, protective and resourceful. My goal is to become a nurse, to see and make people content and happy with their situations, surroundings and with themselves. I find that people sometimes need a person/s to remind and reassure them of how fortunate they are. A faithful and a positive outlook is vital in the role of a nurse and I believe I possess these qualities to contribute. I left school achieving 10 gcse’s, gained other certificates along the way in cleaning (cosh) food management and hygiene and nvq level 2 in health and social care. This shows how dedicated I am to push and further myself to the best of my ability.
Throughout my working life I have worked in jobs that helped me to hone other skills, which is needed to be a nurse. Jobs such as cleaning that gave me an eye for detail, sales representative, helped to me communicate on a persuasive manner and to be tactful. Worked as a bar staff, had to deal with different types of customers, had to analyse my surroundings, and to be confident. At the moment I’m a senior carer, just one away from fulfilling me dreams. Being a carer is one the most rewarding job, to help someone to gain back their independence, to motivate them to achieve the simplest of things and to see them smile at the end of it, its quite beautiful, something I can’t put into words.
I look forward going to work, to meet people who are grateful for your help, they look forward to your company, the relationships between the carers and families. Although it has its disadvantages, the advantages outweighs them. As a senior carer, I show other carers how to perform their duties, I do personal care, good at working in a team, supervising, evaluating, problem solving, building routines, administer medication, complete duty logs, change catheter bags etc. I strive under pressure and adapt easily in any situation, no problem is too difficult, once a calm and steady mind is at work. My dream job is to be a nurse. I’m right on the cusp of moving one step further and I know my qualities will be an asset in my career choice.
