My Educational Background and Goals in Electrical Engineering

If there were two sparks to change the world, the first would be fire, and the second be electricity. It has enabled a completely new world for human innovation, not only greater efficiency, but also enabling increases in the standards of living. My example of educational background shows that I have always been greatly interested in how to harness the raw power of electricity for more complicated applications that would help to solve problems facing the world today. My undergraduate study was in the major of electrical engineering, and my relevant working experience has shown me this is a field I am greatly interested in further pursuing. A master degree in Electrical engineering will provide me with the tools and knowledge I need to become a professional engineer in near future.

As a hardworking engineer with an ability to meet deadlines and produce work with high standards, I am sure I would be able to put my skills to good use in this course. Further, my bachelor degree has given me a strong foundation on which to build my post-graduate study. During college, I placed first in power engineering and Ranked as the sixth in the excellent honor list in faculty of engineering University of Tripoli in the academic year 2016-2017. I hope to continue in the sector of energy as it pertains to electrical engineering.

I work as commissioning engineer for MEDELEC switchgear LTD which is a manufacturer of medium and low voltage switchgear also provides after sales services (e.g. guarantee, commissioning and maintenance…etc.) I do operational tests for medium voltage substations which include testing protection relays for different companies such as Schneider, Alstom and GE. In addition to, testing power transformers for companies CG, MATELEC, TOSHIBA and Siemens. My work gave me opportunities to work and learn from skilled engineers, beside the heavy work load improved me in personal level as well as professional level.

I am planning to have my master degree from Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) by thesis track study, with specialization in power systems and renewable energy. This is relevant to my educational background in undergraduate study and my working experience as well. Rowan University offers the flexibility needed for such a vast and rapidly changing field. The research facilities and the faculty at the university are excellent. A full time, on campus postgraduate degree will give me more in-depth learning to enhance and broaden my knowledge about electrical engineering concepts and theories also supply me with the ability required inside the academic and research world. Upon my return to my home country, I will have stronger background in the Electrical engineering field and research in power systems and renewable energy, therefore I will work for Libyan’s high educational institute and research facilities where I can put my newly gained knowledge into practice. Libya suffering from shortage in well-educated people who dedicate themselves for science and knowledge, so I will do as much as I can to help to improve educational level of Libyan’s next generations. Moreover, reducing Libya’s electricity crisis, characterized by frequent interruptions in the electricity grid and blackouts, which last for hours, sometimes for days.
