My Goal to Study Biological Sciences for Being Beneficial to People Around The World

The numerous interactions that occur in our human body make it seem like the perfect machine for intelligent life and has made human beings the most advanced creatures on earth. Over time our understanding of treating diseases has developed from the invention of penicillin to stem cell research. These discoveries have revolutionized modern medicine to treat a variety of diseases we could never have hoped to treat before. Dementia and Stroke are some of the most debilitating diseases that a person can experience and be diagnosed with this can bring grief not only to the individual but to their loved ones. Nevertheless, our human body still has secrets waiting to be uncovered and I wish to continue my studies to contribute to future revelations in Biomedical Sciences. The subjects I chose at A level will greatly assist me in gaining a foundation to study further in Biological Sciences.

Biology has helped in navigating me through the complex processes that occur in the human body and it has allowed me to follow the scientific method when developing an explanation. Chemistry A level is a gateway to studying biological chemistry that shows the chemical reactions that take place in our body. One example of this is the ions involved in synaptic transmission between two neurons. Choosing Psychology has assisted me to advance my application and debating skills when analyzing research. I had the great opportunity to gain valuable work experience at the Royal Free Hospital Neurological Rehabilitation Center. This has allowed me to witness how patients with serious neurological conditions such as brain injury, spinal injury and multiple sclerosis are rehabilitated into living a most independent life possible and was an eye-opening experience. The insight I have gained from shadowing Dr. Gerard Davies (consultant neurologist) has further inspired me to develop my knowledge even more.

During my last summer holiday to Sri Lanka, I got the opportunity to receive work experience at Greenhouse Medical Center. I have spent time within OPD, medical laboratories, and X-Ray Department which provided me deeper knowledge into a multi-disciplinary network. This experience has enhanced my communication skills by speaking Sinhalese and English to a multicultural community. It was a revealing comparison between the different environments of medical care between two countries. Furthermore, I have volunteered to care for some disabled children as an ambassador in the Village school in London. Helping the children with basic math and interacting with them was unique an experience.

Apart from academics, my fascination with science since my young age has led me to write my own books. In 2016 I wrote my own scientific book called “The Exploration Of The Universe. ” I was delighted to present my book to the School Headteacher Mr. Jeremy Waxman OBE, School Library and to my Primary School. Also, I had the privilege of presenting my book to Mr. Barry Gardiner Member of parliament in the house of commons. The great encouragement I received from them and my own enthusiasm for science has motivated me to write my second book on Biological sciences called “The secret world of Biology. ” Furthermore, I actively participated in much voluntary and charity works through the International Buddhist center in London for the last nine years. Volunteering at the temple has helped me gain more confidence in leading others when organizing events and taking an active role in the community work. Taking care of the environment has been one of my interests and I have participated in many plastic collection campaigns including the great plastic pick up to clean our local ecosystem.

In conclusion, my ultimate goal is to discover mysteries yet to be uncovered in life which is beneficial to people around the world. If I receive the opportunity, I believe I will be able to develop my knowledge and understanding at a greater level in my chosen field to achieve this goal.
